Never played RCT2 before and feel overwhelmed by how unfocused all of the scenarios seem. Massive flat parks with really long term goals, and tons of attractions already unlocked from the start, even on the easier difficulty ones. Is there no Forest Frontiers equivalent? RCT2 doesn't allow mixed admission models anymore. You can unlock them through a cheat, at least in OpenRCT2.

If you are playing vanilla RCT2, stop right now and get OpenRCT2. It also fixes some of the missteps RCT2 made.

Pretty much the only things RCT2 did better are Shift to change build height, more scenery options, additional options when saving track designs (including paths and scenery) and some stuff under the hood. Its addons are particularly garbage. All the "new" attractions are just reskins and most of the scenery looks atrocious.

the download for the recreations is in the OP. To add a scenario, you can double click on it and rct will install it, or put in in your scenarios folder if you are using openRCT (my docs/openrct2/scenarios). Make sure to set openrct as the default program for scenarios and parks too so you can simply double click them to open.

You can just drop tracks into your tracks folder, which is in your game directory.

You have to experiment until you gain an intuition. I've got the game, been playing since before the steam released. It is pretty damn fun, but somehow more tedious to make things look good than rct2 at NE level. Great game if you have the time and patience to spend making a diorama, but harder to get into than rct.

The UI is Pretty shitty too for ride and scenery selection, especially scenery. They are group in categories much like rct3, and an outright pain in the ass the scroll through and find something you want compared to rct2 with custom scenery. You can't build rides backwards, or delete them backwards (deleting from the back is one at a time, can't spam bulldoze like in rct), so if you fuck up on your coaster and want to alter the layout it can be a real pain.

the sheer amount of customization and detail you can put into a park is really lovely though, and the art style is great imo.

There was an anon asking about this in one of the previous threads

https://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2/issues/3537

https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/1245-show-limits-for-of-cars-per-train/

It seems the dropdown menus for these two options were changed to up/down arrows because the dropdown menus have a hard limit of 64 on screen at a time and the limit was raised to 255 max.

>> No.3373347

>>3373320
Well, that's still a shitty way to input large numbers. Thinking how long it takes to raise umbrella prices during the rain.

Also, how often would one need (or even have space) for 64 < x < 255 cars/trains on a normal track.

>> No.3373364

>>3373347
It's only possible to run into the limit if you have the 255 car cheat enabled. The devs in the issue there want to disable the arrows unless the cheat is enabled.

They probably intend to address it properly in the future but cannot raise the limit on the dropdown menus right now due to the existing code.

Yeah, I know it's only possible with that cheat. I just couldn't think of many kinds of ordinary-sized tracks where you'd even want to go that high. Maybe chairlifts spanning the whole park.

I'm looking for custom scenery archways that fit in with the brown castle walls as well as the matching door/portcullis.

ToonTowner made an okayish one in XXWLCB08.DAT, but it still doesn't fit perfectly and is slightly glitched. The stock ones just let guests slip though and don't open, so that looks stupid too.

Don't know if any of you would be interested in a mega park scenario. I'm still working on it. Might take a couple more days to finish. I was thinking of a build your own ski resort. The catch is the highest elevations is about 530 and the lowest elevations is -30. So that gives a lot of room for some insane coasters.

The top of the park is where the ski resort can be built. The entrances to the park are at the bottom. A walking path and chair lift can be take guests to the resort.

I'm not sure If I should have sharp drop offs likes this or give it more of a natural look. Many of the scenery objects are taken from Christmas in Rovaniemi found at nedesigns.

IMO it would look better/more realistic if you chose a two or three main tree species (for maximum autism, ones that commonly occur together in nature as plant communities) and interspersed them with some shrubs and rarer trees. And left some space inbetween.

And this would be my approach at fixing the main problem the Chain Lift has. If a breakdown occurs during the Launch, the train doesn't get enough speed to make the hill and falls back onto the Chain Launch, where it gets stopped and Launched again at "not enough speed to make the hill" and the loop repeats and you have to close the ride and reopen to fix it.

With the return tracks, the train gets to the beginning of the Chain Launch and once the ride is fixed, it gets the speed needed to clear the hill.

Now, if anyone better than me at the game could make an actual good coaster out of it... I'd be happy.

At some point it will happen because OpenRCT2 has mod support planned in the future. In order to avoid legal problems the devs will probably avoid shipping it with their game engine and instead require that you extract the graphics(and maybe code) from the DLC and add them to a particular directory to enable the new elements.

This is part of my dream as an adult. Retire somewhere semi rural, build my own house (compact and comfy yet open and spacious with few rooms fitting together as in a tiny house) and a few roller coasters. All of this rigorously engineered myself, of course.

I went to Magic Mountain. Rode my first suspended, flying, and wing coasters. Unlike the two hybrid wooden coasters I've been on, which seem to be designed with as much airtime and lurching twists as can possibly be crammed in, they didnt cause me any nausea at all and were quite satisfying. Flying coasters seem to take absurdly long to get their trains loaded, though that might just be six herps, so Tatsu nearly wasnt worth the wait despite being great.

X2, however, was absolutely hilarious. It has no leg restraints yet likes to point you face down like a flying coaster. Together with the chaotic twists that are the point of the ride and it being a shaky Arrow coaster, you end up with your arms and legs dangling, getting slammed all over the place and generally thrown around like a ragdoll. I was laughing my ass off the entire ride, including the photo. People call this shit intense because you do a flip during a backwards vertical drop, but whatever man. It's just funny, and in that regard, magnificent.

Also ads in six flags parks for beta access to RCTW gave me a chuckle.

Apparently guests with park maps try to go straight for attractions no matter how far away they are but they don't take into account any breaks in paths so if there's a break in the middle of the route they'll circle around the area endlessly. The only thing you can do is either avoid selling park maps or design your footpaths so they don't have dead ends or breaks anywhere.

Current one. Operating mode hacked into block section mode, which is what a lot of the lift hills act as. This type also quickly loses a lot of its speed, so some of them are actually needed.

Not completely happy with this, so I might scrap and redo some sections.

You mean those two consecutive ones after the second drop or more than two in general? The two are timed to prevent the next car from stalling one block before.

And I either need a dozen short lift hills or a station with a length of seven units to get a reasonable number of cars.

Originally I hoped that the cars could clear the (then shorter) track up to the unloading station just with their potential energy, but that proved completely unrealistic for suspended minis.

>>3435797
ever single regular coaster car (twister, woodie, looper etc) can go through any element when hacked onto different track types, including downward sloped curves. The game engine selects the sprites closest to what is needed. So yes, pretty much every coaster will need new sprites (the aim is to use 100% original assets anyway) but they will still function with new track elements until those sprites are updated.

>> No.3437621

>>3437606
I doubt the devs will implement anything that looks glitchy, like banked turns without sprites, into the main branch. So we'll probably just have to wait for some artistic person to turn up and create the required sprites for both track and train before we get it.

>> No.3441004

You know, you can build over the lake or use the extra space in the north.

>> No.3441089

>>3440968
At the start delete the footpath to each side of the enterance to force all customers to a smaller area. Smaller area = more money faster. Build in the lake and to the sides. Use more the footpath as you grow, never all of it until you've filled all the space with rides and shit.

>> No.3441291

>>3440371
Use OpenRCT anon, you can add every selected ride to the already researched section with one button click. It also sorts out the ride and object selection by vanilla/TT/WW/custom, gives you the option to further sort those by ride type or ride name, and you can choose to only see stuff you've already selected or not selected.

The fuck is going wrong here?

I used to have fountains there to block off areas where boats aren't supposed to go, but replaced them with fences to make it look less stupid. Now the swan boats don't manage to leave the guide rail, instead turning around in the spot and pass through the fence. Can't pass in the opposite direction though, so they can't reach the other side of the station.

There were also some swan boats in the middle of the lake already (from before I changed to fences) who no longer found their way back.

>> No.3441357

>>3441329
Are those fences on the same tile as the track or the tile beside it? For that to work maybe it can't be on the same tile as the track. Otherwise try a larger object. I used the full-tile pole things here >>3375657 on the bottom and never had any boats go past them.

Patent for Harry Traver's Cyclone layout, which was built at Crystal Beach, Palisades and Revere Beach (known as "The Lightning"). Traver was an absolute madman and built the twistiest, sexiest woodies of the 20's. The ride in this particular patent actually used steel supports under a wooden track, but in the same shape as regular woody supports.

pic related is available for download at mediafire.com/?6z1hgy1wdlddwk9 , I tried to keep the scenery basic so you can use it in scenarios and avoided using zero clearance so it would save properly.

>> No.3442561

>>3442535
Well, some are. For example there are several coaster companies that build Woodies, and I don't think anyone could tell from the track type if a Woody in RCT is an Intamin, a CCI etc. You'd have to look at how the layout is designed, what trains are used etc. But others, like the B&M Floorless or the Arrow Corkscrew are basically identical with their IRL counterparts.

>>3442525
Floorless is my favorite type to build (also the only B&M I've been on). Inverted, Flying and Wing coasters are the hardest to build, but I do like them when I manage something nice.

fixed the supports fuckup in the lower turnaround, the track didn't save the scenery properly because of clearance issues, there used be be a lattice over the track where the supports stuck out

Negative vertical G's. It's just physics, when a roller coaster train travel over a hill it want to keep moving upward but the wheels keep it pinned to the track. The restraints in turn keep the riders from flying away which is what feels like you're weightless or about to take off.

>> No.3445687

>>3445603
Longer is the main thing. The scoring for most rides in RCT includes a minimum length component that severely bounds the score. It's why you'll see mice or woodies go from 3 excitement to 6 with a minor change.
