Favorite town in each game?

DQ1: Kol. It's just a comfy place. I love how you exit the town by stepping on certain tiles even though you can see more trees and shit beyond that point that you can never reach. It feels as if the town is hidden deep into the forest and nobody can find you there.

DQ2: Hamlin. It's where you meet the princess and there is this little house in the middle of the town surrounded by water. It's a nice place.

DQ3: Jipang. I like to think that the female fighter comes from this town. I like the room with Yayoi hidden inside a pot.

DQ4: I can't decide between Santeem castle and Frenor.

DQ5: Port Selmi. That huge bar is great.

DQ6: Definitely Calberona. There are a lot of beautiful places in this game, though.

I haven't played any others except the Monsters games. GreatLog > GreatTree.

What's the point of using Garin's harp in 1 and 3? Especially in 3, since you don't need it at all. It summons monsters when used, so I guess it's intended to speed up your grinding, but you have to select the item and hear the song every single time. You grind much faster just walking around.

Is it just a joke item?

DQ1: Kol like you said.
DQ2: Forgot the name but the thieve town.
DQ3: Native American town but really everything in DQ3 was great in a way. Each gives it's own feeling both in looks, NPC, and music.
DQ4: Santeem for me
DQ5: Gotha. I just like how secluted and find out about your family past.
DQ6: I really need to replay it to really know myself
DQ7: That desert area. I always love oasis towns for some reason.
DQ8: I love the cat palace. I don't know why but a building dedicated to sabercat was just great to me.
>>3335616
If you arrange your items you can have the harp on the top of the list to summon faster. There are times when I found myself wanting to get into battles but the game just refuse to start one.

Is the best way to play Dragon Quest 1-3 on the gameboy?

>> No.3335676

I like how every game handles the villains differently, instead of repeating the same pattern over and over again.

The Dragonlord wants to rule Alefgard. He only has an important minion: the green dragon that guards the princess. The rest are just more dragons of different colors. The armor guy in Hauskness doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Dragonlord or and the golem was just trying to protect the city.

Hargon wants a god of destruction to destroy the world. This guy is interesting because he doesn't really send any bosses after you in the entire game. Atlas, Bazuzu and Zarlox are all waiting for you inside the final castle. When you are almost done killing Hargon, he sacrifices his life to summon Malroth in an instant. It seems like that was his intention all along, but I think his original plan was to slowly summon him without losing his life. I don't really get why he attacked Moonbrooke, though.

The other games handle the villains in interesting ways too.

It depends on your tastes. I prefer the NES versions because they had a decent level of difficulty and I love how the 8-bit graphics leave things to the imagination. The problem is that 1, even though it's short and enjoyable, is pure grinding. 2 is hard as balls and requires you to find five invisible items with barely any hints. If you use a guide for that part, it's a good game. Once you know where they are, you can always replay it without using a guide, so it's not a big deal. 3 is fucking amazing, but it's a lot more enjoyable if you played the other two games.

The GBC versions look good and play really smoothly. If you don't care about difficulty and dislike NES graphics, go for them. They are pretty easy and can be very enjoyable when you just want to play something simple and old-school without having to put too much effort.

3 can be a problem for some people because the remakes added a personality system that affects your stat growths. I don't really enjoy it, so I prefer the NES version.

Finally, the GBC remakes are based on the SNES remakes. The only difference between them is that the GBC version of 3 has a second bonus dungeon that you unlock by collecting medals dropped by enemies. I never had the patience to go through it. It also has a bug that can make you gain 99 levels instantly or some crap if you have bad luck playing a certain optional minigame.

The SNES versions of 1 and 2 look hideous compared to their GBC counterparts, in my opinion. 2 a few bugs caused by the translation patch that you can easily ignore if you know how to avoid triggering them.

I would recommend the NES versions. Hell, play the original version of every game in the series. The remakes never do them justice. But if you really dislike them for some reason, I guess the remakes are decent. Just a little too easy. 3 sometimes feels like you are playing with cheat codes.

>> No.3335726

1: GBC or NES
2: GBC or NES
3: NES, but GBC and SNES are decent too.

The remakes of 3 have more elaborate graphics and faster movement speed, which I think makes it stand out in a bad way. The NES versions of 1-3 all play and look the same, except for a few minor improvements. This makes them feel consistent with each other, which is important because they all take place in the same world, so it feels weird for a prequel to look more modern than games that take place later.

4: NES
5: SNES or PS2

7: PS1

The North American NES versions are not the original versions. They changed the script, changed the difficulty, censored the game and in some cases changed the gameplay.

I recommend playing the games in Japanese, they're easy to understand even for beginners.

And please don't vocation grind in 6, you only get points towards the next level of your vocation if the fight is around your level, beating up weaker monsters will get you nothing. I usually stop changing vocations after everyone has an completed the few that make sense for them to have. After Barbara is completes the sage I see vocation I see no point in filling her menus with even more shit that I'll probably never use.

I always do it like this:

Hero: Soldier > Fighter > Battlemaster > Hero

It's a shame that Fighter-Mage and Paladin don't unlock Hero, because they fit the main character more than any of the four classes that actually unlock it.

Hassan: Fighter > Soldier > Battlemaster

I know you have Alena's crit rate while you are a Fighter, which benefits from being at higher levels, but it just feels wrong not to make him a Fighter right away.

Milayou: Dancer > Goof-off > Superstar

Sometimes I could also make her a priest, but hustle dance is better than any healing spell, so I don't know.

Barbara: Wizard > Priest > Sage

Being a Wizard early on can make it very hard to keep her alive, but it just feels wrong not to make her a Wizard.

Chamoro: Priest > Fighter > Paladin

I don't know if he's bald under his hat, but he kind of reminds me of a monk. I think fighter fits him. I may eventually make him master Wizard and Sage so he can be a better healer.

Amos: Beastmaster > Merchant > Thief > Ranger

This guy is weird. He is some kind of hero, but I use him as a jack of all trades. I guess Ranger fits him. And Beastmaster definitely fits him and is really useful early on, since it gives him monster attacks. It only makes sense for Amos to learn such attacks. I could make him a dragon in the post game too.

Terry: Battlemaster > Wizard > Fighter-Mage

He comes with Battlemaster mastered and with all the soldier skills, so I usually make him master Wizard and Fighter-Mage.

Drago: Dragon

She doesn't need anything else and you get her near the end of the game anyway.

As for the Metal Babble class that you get in the post game, I guess it makes sense to give him to Hassan. Not for the spells, but for the stats.

I'll never understand people's problem with emulators. You know it will eventually be impossible to play them on the actual console, right? Better forget about "the real experience" of playing on a real SNES before you get too attached to it. One day there won't be a single SNES left in the world. Emulators are the future.

Some companies try to preserve their games by putting them on the Wii U virtual console and all that, but they often censor shit and that's not real preservation. It's even worse when they don't bother to make their old games available at all and just port fucking remakes instead.

I have absolutely zero problems with the pronunciation since my native language sounds exactly the same. How much time would that save me?

I heard that kanjis eventually make sense after a few years. Someone told me that I should look at it like this, imagining how it would be if English had a similar writing system:

( o ) = imagine it's the kanji for eye

( o ) would mean eye and be pronounced "eye". Then, to write words like "vision" you would write the kanji and the rest in hiragana "( o )ion". In this word, the kanji would be read as "vis".

Something like that. Apparently that's why kanji have multiple readings. Once you know the vocabulary and what the kanji means, kanji pronunciations are supposed to be easy to figure out.

Did that person feed me a bunch of bullshit or does it really work like this, more or less?

>> No.3337159

Alena is beyond broken in the NES version because her critical hit ratio was even higher than it is now and because the old games didn't have a proper defense stat.

Your defense stat was simply half of your agility stat. Which meant that Alena and the DQ3 thief had insane natural defense compared to everyone else, while the soldiers and Ragnar, being slow as shit, had the worst defense. Of course, soldiers could equip amazing armors, shields and helmets, on top of having great hp, while fighters barely had equipment.

This means that a naked Alena would barely receive damage from a naked Ragnar, while Ragnar would be totally destroyed if Alena even touched him. Alena had godlike stats.

The hero was also much stronger than every other hero in the series. Erdrick barely had enough hp to cast most of his exclusive spells, while Solo/Sofia could spam it for a while, as far as I remember. They even had the transform spell that could turn them into a second Alena!

I've seen different versions of the Noprogress patch and the patched rom floating around, though, some of them being ancient as fuck. Make sure to use the latest one. Everything is translated except the post-Mudo dialogue in Shiena, the optional scene in dream world Amor (when the kids bury a treasure in front of the church) and a couple of npcs in the dark realm. I don't remember anything else being untranslated.

I only found three bugs early in the game and managed to avoid them for the rest of the adventure. They all freeze the game. For some reason, they seem to disappear later on:

-Backing out of the "info>all" menu. I just tested it on my postgame file and it doesn't freeze the game anymore... Weird. Anyway, it's a menu you can completely ignore the whole game. I've never felt the need to use it.

-Backing out of the "accessory" part of the "equip" menu. That means selecting weapon, armor, shield, helmet and then backing out of the menus instead of selecting an accessory and going forward. By the time you try to back out from the "weapon" part, it freezes. Oddly enough, I just tested this one on my save file and the game won't freeze no matter how many times I try to trigger the bug. Weird.

-Using the hero's worthless "memory" spells in certain situations. I only used it accidentally in the tower where you meet Barbara and it glitched everything up, graphics included, before freezing the game. I was able to use it later in the game and it never did anything weird again, but I decided to ignore it anyway.

Milayou being called Muriel until you get access to the underwater map sucks, though. Literally the worst possible interpretation of her name. What were they thinking?

I explored the crap out of the game and returned to previous towns everytime I did something important. Practically everything was translated. Maybe you were playing an old version of the patch.

There may have been more missing text in towns like Torukka after killing Mudo, because the NPC dialogue changes after that. But it was only that, a couple of towns that were supposed to celebrate Mudo's death and were left untranslated.

I remember exploring absolutely everything many times over the course of the game and never felt like there was "a lot" of missing text.

I watched an LP from Kenshin1913 and his rom had a bunch of missing text in that town in Deathtamoor's world where you are supposed to go into the hot springs to find a way out. The version I played had all that text translated, so people playing the outdated rom it's probably a very common thing for some reason. Where did you download it from?

What? Why would they do that? I don't believe it.

... It wouldn't be that bad anyway. Orchestral soundtracks often add overly long intros to the songs that become annoying really fast. Especially when they are slow and don't sound anything like the rest of the song, since you will be hearing them for a good 10-15 seconds every time. You will sometimes go from a town to the next without getting to hear the original overworld song at all.

Maybe they did something about this shit in the DQ7 remake, I don't know. But they dropped the ball really hard in the android ports.

8 didn't have a bad translation, but the localization staff messed up the coding when they added voice acting, causing load times that didn't exist in the original Japanese game. The random encounters weren't supposed to have any load times. They really fucked that up.

They also "updated" both the normal menu and the battle menu to make them look more modern, while the original was a simple, fast, effective, classic DQ menu. Some sound effects like the classic "spell" sound were removed because they didn't like it, which is total bullshit.

Finally, the orchestrated soundtrack is a matter of taste. I find it nostalgic, but in some ways the Japanese soundtrack is superior and more catchy.

Good choice, but you should play the originals eventually. They are an interesting experience, even though 1 and 2 can be a huge grind. If you are the kind of person that gets all OCD with natures in Pokemon and shit like that, I would consider playing 3 on NES instead. It's arguably better than the remake and doesn't have a personality system that can ruin the experience for some people. But whatever you do, play the three games in the same system.

This is a great idea too. The pacing in the DS remake feels off and the new wife feels tacked on. DQV wasn't supposed to be a waifu simulator. Also, choosing the new wife turns the game into a fucking comedy. It's not good for a first time player. I think there are two different translations of V or something.

The PS2 version is also good and the features they added are very enjoyable, but I think SNES is better as your first experience with the game.

VI has been discussed to death in this thread already, so I won't say anything else.

One advantage DQVI's SFC version has over it's DS version is the monster capturing system.

Unfortunately, there wasn't as nearly as large a selection of monsters as there was in DQV, plus capturing them isn't even that big a focus anymore since:

A) You get 7 human characters, all of which are decent and useful in their own way already.

B) You need to use the beastmaster class to capture monsters. This is shit because beastmaster has pisspoor stats, and the monster capture ability doesn't carry over to ranger despite it being the prestige of beastmaster.

C) You get two free monsters anyway, Lizzie and Goober(I forget the SFC translation names). Lizzie trumps almost every monster you can capture, and Goober learns the best breath move at level 45, making there be no need to recruit a regular slime.

All things considered, if you're going to do any monster recruiting in DQVI, all you need is a slime knight, healslime, metal babble, wyvern, and lamp demon.

Lamp demon in particular has amazing stats as >>3339227 pointed out.

It's like when you recommend a great book to someone and they end up watching the mediocre movie adaptation instead, thinking it was somehow representative of the original work

Have you ever read a visual novel/manga and then discussed the subject with fans of the anime adaptation? Anime-only fans are people who don’t know what the work is about but think they do because they read or saw some distillation of it.

This is the same thing.

There was also a neat trick to always win the slime races in Oracleberry. I don't exactly remember how it works, but I think you have to play any of the slot machines (one coin is enough) and then bet on the first slime. He will always win the race.

I know some end up becoming obsolete, like prestidigitator, small fry, and drag-goof. Yet they're good for the segments you get them and I like the look of them.

Were I to remake DQV, I would implement something like this.

>Capture small fry as early as possible
>Get to the part where you and your wife get turned into statues for 10 years
>Small fry has grown into a great dragon in that time

I remember using a slime knight even though he shouldn't be able to fit through the door, so yeah.

That sidequest was weird. If I'm not mistaken, the game considers the first person in your party the slime's "master" the first time he participates in the colosseum. This means that you need to have that person in your party every time or else they won't allow that particular slime to battle.

It's a shame that a game that allows you to recruit so many monsters and lets you have a wife and two kids only allows three characters in battle, but the lack of party chat means that you can randomly replace your daughter with Sancho or whatever when you feel like it without missing lines of dialogue.

Bianca may be useless, but Flora is arguably even better than the daughter. She sucks early in the game because she can't go past level 10 and can't be controlled, but she was essential for the last dungeon and Estark.

That game has so many broken items. That drum that casts bikill on everyone for free. The hat that restores your MP as you walk. The hat that allows you to double-cast a spell for the price of one. It's great. I kept using the first hat to reach Estark with full MP on both Flora and the daughter.

I still use Bianca when I choose her. I don't mind using outclassed characters if I like them.

You know what sucks about both the PS2 and DS remakes of DQV? The scene where you are turned to stone. Hell, Gema/Ladja in general. They try to make him even more evil and detestable than he originally was, to the point of overshadowing the final boss. I prefer how the original version did it.

In the original, he kills Papas and you don't see him again until the dragon tower, much later in the game. You spend all that time wanting to take revenge, but the coward just won't show up in front of you.

When you finally find him, he was on a mission to hide the dragon's eye or something, he wasn't going out of his way to harrass you. The only reason you find him is because you are trying to help Master Dragon.

And when you finally kill him, there's no epic death scene or anything like that. His death and boss battle and given the same level of importance as that other boss (the pig-dog guy, one of his underlings) that had the other eye. You finally avenged Papas, but it still feels bad. That Gema bastard simply died... without suffering as much as he deserved. It's a bittersweet feeling.

How does the petrification scene happen, then? Jami the horse (one of the guys that killed Papas), after being defeated, uses his last breath to create a magic smoke or whatever that turns you and your wife to stone. I think this power fits him because he's all grey and those muscles make him look like he is made of stone or something. Also, it makes him more memorable.

In the DS version, he just dies and Gema shows up instead to petrify you. He was stalking you the whole time I guess? It makes sense that Jami can do something like this using his last bit of power and having that statue-like appearance. It's like a curse that kills the user. But why the hell can a perfetly healthy Gema do it in the remakes? Can't he just do it again whenever he wants and ruin your adventure? I don't like the change.

How does the crocodile guy die then? You fatally injure him and he summons Mildrath's power asking to be healed, but Mildrath kills him because he's useless. In the remakes, Gema is still alive after the battle in the dragon tower and shows up AGAIN because he is always stalking you. And he kills him for reasons I don't remember. I like the original scene better, with the guy believing that Mildrath will save him and being killed instead.

The scene where your mom dies? She tries to sacrifice herself to sacrifice herself to weaken Mildrath or something but Mildrath kills her before she can do anything. It gives you more reason to hate Mildrath and to want him dead. He killed your mother. In the remakes, Gema shows up and kills her, stealing the spotlight again. What did Mildrath do to you, personally? Nothing, because fucking Gema did it for him. You don't hate him as much as you hate Gema. It takes away from the impact of the final battle in my opinion.

The original game only allows three people in battle, which sucks if you want to use Sancho after being unpetrified because you have to take out one of your kids. Same with the wife when you save her. But I think the story is better for all the reasons stated above. Each villain has enough weight and you hate them all, not just Gema.

I still like the PS2 remake, though. It's cool to see that world in 3D. If only they had remade 6 with the DQ8 engine... God, I would kill for that.

Even if Gema/Ladja is essentially the reverse flash for doing all the bad things that ever happened in your life, he's still working for Mildrath/Nimzo. All of those things are his orders, and your mother still needs you to fight Nimzo to keep the underworld from ripping open or whatever.
Besides, if it was just Jami/Kon who turned you to stone after dying, who would you seek revenge on? If doing at at the behest of Nimzo is enough to make you hate Nimzo then that's reason enough to hate Nimzo when Ladja did all those things and the original point falls flat.
Really though they probably just looked at DQ 8 when doing the remakes and went "yeah we need another Dhoulmagus-like character who fucks over everything in you/your party's life like reverse flash, turn Gema into him. And rename him Ladja."

Pronunciation is the easiest part of the language, since the language uses just pure vowels and all but a few of the consonant sounds are found in English. You save maybe a few minutes by knowing how to pronounce things.

And really, it will be difficult to learn Japanese from an English translation, since virtually everything operates from a fundamentally different set of rules. Learning Kanji is more about building up your vocabulary to the point where characters represent concepts and the combination of kanji create more detailed words. Obviously the readings for these words will matter in the spoken language, but it isn't healthy to rely on English conventions to draw parallels in Japanese.

You should check out the DJT on /a/ for resources if you really want to learn the language.

What do you mean by richer? The SFC translation is kind of dry, but it works perfectly and doesn't ruin the mood every five seconds with puns and accents.

The DS version's dialogue is also more... verbose, which isn't always a good thing. They use too many words to say simple things, trying to give it more flavor or something. I mean richer as in more enjoyable to read with more information conveyed. The SFC translation is dry, I want to find out just how dry.

Anyway, I did the opening. It's kind of a lot of work transcribing this, phew. The full scripts for both versions are at pastebin.com/3R2swq8k if you want to read over them yourselves. I named my hero Recks.

Some differences I thought were interesting:

>DS:
Milly: The fate of the world rests on this battle. If we can emerge victorious, peace will be restored. We're as ready as we'll ever be. Come, Recks. we must go.

>SFC:
Hassan: It seems too quiet here. (Yes) Getting into this castle was too easy...Let's not waste time thinking about it. Recks! Let's go!
>DS:
Carver: It's do or die time, Recks. It's been a real cakewalk so far, though, don't ya think? (Yes) Yeah. I mean, why build a creepy keep like this if you're gonna let us waltz right in without a fight? Bah! I'm through with thinking. After you, Recks!

>SFC:
Milly: What is going on in here?
Hassan: I can't see anything... whoa! Ahhhh!

Milayou is just weird. She knows the hero and Hassan are dreams, but never tells them (probably because they wouldn't believe her). The game explains her past in cryptic ways in a completely optional town. And she finds her real body before we meet her, but tries to make us believe that she simply used the dream dew to become visible.

Hassan became a traveling fighter, the hero became a normal villager with a cute sister, but we don't know anything about Dream Milayou.

Maybe Hassan was the only one turned to stone. The SFC translation doesn't say anything about that after all, but maybe the original text did.

The people in Shiena/Haggleton are pure dreams, though. They only exist in the dreams of some old man, so they aren't real people sleeping in the real world. They are part of that guy's mind.

Is there anyone who doesn't know about the map glitch in DW4 NES? It's really fun.

Open one of the big castle doors (I don't remember if it works with small doors) and go inside. Then go out of the castle and you will be standing on the "entrance". Open the map, and when you close it the door will have respawned on top of you! Look in the direction you want to go and use the door command. If I remember correctly, you will move one tile in that direction and another door will appear in front of you. Keep opening the doors and you will slowly advance towards the edge of the map, all over the walls of the castle.

The game freezes if you try to go out of the screen, but since Zenithia is surrounded by sky, you simply fall off the castle before you can reach the edge of the map.

They're kinda smart at times.

The game is slightly easier than DS because they know you can't control everything. Its worth experiencing as intended.

the best part is when Kiryl's instakill obsession works and random encounters are instantly vaporized.

>> No.3340038

>>3339998
Play the game as it was intended. The AI makes the characters feel more real, makes you feel more connected to the hero, heals you in situations that you couldn't have predicted and makes random battles a lot more enjoyable because you only have to select the hero's actions.

The cheat code is interesting if you want to play around with the mechanics and try weird things, but it makes the game way too easy because the character's stats were planned with the AI system in mind Their max MP and the cost of the spells are designed in such a way that a few bad AI decision don't really hurt your chances of success.

Use the code if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it. The AI is surprisingly good. Just keep it on Offensive and switch to "Save MP" or "Use no MP" if you need to. "Try out" makes them use items from their inventory and try weird spells that, if prove to be useful against an enemy, will be used more often against that enemy under other AI settings. It's basic, but they do learn what works and what doesn't.

Be careful with how you spend the small medals you find in dressers and apparently empty spaces, though. I usually exchange them for as many miracle swords as possible.

>> No.3340046

>>3340038
Oh, by the way, the cheat code basically reverts the battle menu to the "pre-chapter 5" status. You obviously lose access to the tactics option, but it also removes the formation option. This means that you can't replace your party members with the ones in the wagon in the middle of a battle.

You're welcome.

I also found a funny game genie code here:

https://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/563409-dragon-warrior-iv/faqs/11035

It's VUUOTESA. I'm not sure if it has other unknown effects, so I wouldn't use it for a real playthrough. But it basically changes the effect of the staff of jubilation. This item makes the enemy laugh for a turn, but under the effects of the code, it makes the user remove their armor and... show her tits to the enemies I guess. I'm not even sure if it confuses the monsters, but it's funny.

This can happen without codes, but it's extremely rare. It's one of the random effects of the confused status, but there aren't many enemies that can confuse you.

I always thought the characters from IV didn't seem to be close to each other at all. Maybe it's because they don't really talk during the storyline and I never played a version with party chat. That's probably the point, since they are total strangers decided to help the hero.

The cast from VI had actual conversations with each other and they were around the same age.

You are an even bigger dick than he ever was.

I took one step outside of Tantagel Castle and ran into a blue slime. I tried to run away but he kept blocking me and killed me. I didn't even have time to buy a club in the town next door. I was penalized for dying and lost half my gold, and couldn't buy any armor. I just quit, defeated out of the gate.

It was my first, and it was nice. But after playing others it really pales in comparison. There was only one file per cart so you can't start over and do a speedrun or solo run or even just relive the story without losing all your progress, which if you do now also means you can never get the downloadable content again if you had it in the first place.
The sidequests weren't very captivating. Hello, can you go out and kill some monsters until you get a random drop that you'd probably much rather use for alchemy at this point in the game? Taking an example from another Sqenix hit Chrono Trigger, sidequests took you to brand new places like finding the rainbow shell in a hidden dinosaur refuge and fighting a unique boss to revive a forest. Granted, some in 9 were good like dressing up as a slimestack to convince a slime to goo home to its family, but most you would not write home about.
Grottoes weren't great. Without a guide, you're going in doing the same few bosses and then give up on them because it's jsut the same few bosses. With a guide, you see there's actually quite a few more than you realized and they all have insanely rare drops you have to rng manipulate to get, which you can then alchemize into something even greater if you rng manipulate again. If you didn't look up a guide and just got lucky getting the drop, the alchemy recipes were in the "you need friends to get this" room so you basically had items that were kinda good but easily replaceable. Of course there was also metal king grinding, again if you know what you're doing or get really lucky, not necessary at all though unless you want to max out a class for its accessory (which you wouldn't know about without looking it up) or skill points, or if you're grinding for the bonus bosses you can't get anymore. Even then LMSs exists already and are very easy to harvest with the encounter system.

The arena also gave me some problems, the first three opponents are easy but the knight and yeti always killed me. Luckily went grinding and killed two metal slimes, was good to go after that. Luckily I remember Torneko's chapter being pretty easy, the only difficult part is the grind for cautery sword/sword of malice. Fortunately for you I believe the chance of getting it is higher in the DS version.

2 is like that, but 3 is a port of the SFC version, with perfect scaling. However, it has a number of things cut out of it. Like Pachisi tracks, and monster aninmations.

Yeah, the yeti can be a pain if you're not lucky, but with the claw and enough herbs it's usually fine. I only just read about the flaming sword a minute ago since I had no fucking clue what the point of the shop minigame was, and I got one quick enough but I don't feel like grinding money for it, I'll see if I get lucky with steel sword drops and shit.
Also what's the best party and why is it Hero(ine)/Maya/Kyril/Borya, and Psaro post-game instead of Maya

That's why I feel DQ4 NES is still playable. Not only because I enjoy the localization better but by that time there's much more ways to grind quickly. Also I don't know if the chance is higher in the DS since I once got it on my first try in the NES and once had to do it over 20 times in the DS version.

WHAT THE FUCK
Why did they cut those?

Well fuck them, SNES it is for 1-3.
Thanks anon.

Now if only someone could fucking restore Party Talk to DS version of 4. I compared DQ5 side-by-side on my phone and DSi and DSi version unironically looks better, due to better and sharper font, the pixelated look fitting better with DS's pixel grid display and most importantly - the HUD positioning being much better.

Just look at this shit, it covers the characters instead of appearing below them. On DS the HUD is directly below Pankraz.

Also is it me or are DQ5 waifus basically Bulma, Chi Chi and Launch? Just with different hair colors.

Impossible. The game is hard-coded disable Party Chat if the language is switched. Even if you use codes to switch to the partially translated scripts in other languages in the Japanese version, the party chat gets disabled.

It would take a some work to get around this, and you'd have to use the Japanese version of the game.
The English script would have to imported over the Japanese script, then the Mobile party chat script would have to transcribed manually, since the Mobile version uses different formatting, and then imported over the Japanese party chat script.
Alternatively the entire script could just be re-translated by scratch, since no one seems to like the official one, but that would still take a long time.

>>3343528
Yeah I heard about that bullshit with it getting automatically disabled if you switch script in Jap version.
Personally I think it would be better to just slap the text files into Jap version and look for the trigger that disables Party Talk, rather than going through the awful manual labour of editing the formatting.

Maybe I'm dumb but is the yeti complete luck for which one is the real one? In the ds version as they split the real one looks different so it's easy there. Either I'm a dumbass or my emulator was fucked but I couldn't tell for shit which is real.

Doesn't the real one flicker differently in the DS version? The actual sprite, or when they're split, all looks the same.

I remember that anime... but not with the south american spanish accent.

In Spain, this show was only in "catalan" (a language from north-east Spain), and now, that I know the DQ franchise... well... The catalan openin is totally fucked up.

You could be right but it's still RNG. And with that you get shit like getting the sword on or first try and in another play through don't see it after 20 times.

I know it's asking a lot but I do hope someone out there does a fan translation of the PSX version. DS is fucked because of how it's coded (but there's ways around it I'm guessing). But fan translaters tend not to really do games that are already in English. Even if they dialog is annoying to most.

Nope, at least not with the Western release. The only way to get it back in would be to migrate the script from the western release to the JP release, or just re-translate the JP release, and I'm not aware of any project that does this, it's harder than it looks.
