I remember that game being one of the hardest game ever.

I would rate the levels From Easiest to Hardest this way:

Port Of Adia- still quite a challenge for the first level, and its probably the easiest area to accidently pass by mission objectives (after the Hive, that is).

Primagen's Lightship- Theres plentiful ammo and health strewn about and none of the enemies are particularly infuriating. Thanks to the fantastic structure, it's not too much hassle retracing your steps for quest items etc. the fans and lasers are bothersome at times though.

Death Marshes- The new arsenal you find admidst this level (Shredder especially) keeps the enemies at bay for the most part, though the heavily armoured fellas still take a beating. Took me a while to learn to keep away from the health sapping bogs altogether. The music in this level scared the shit out of me.

River of Souls- Favorite level, long but varied. Challenging but not annoying. Undead Battles and the Riding Gun section are my favorite parts of the game.

Lair of the Blind Ones- Humongous! Seemingly never-ending! Guardian's bows are purty powerful and tedious jumping sections over bottomless pits I never welcome in any game. Not to mention the underwater section, your maps almost obligatory there! A nice array of foes to face though, the atmosphere is impressive and the enviroment varies enough to stop it growing repetitive... unlike the Hive.

Hive of the Mantids- Honestly.... how irritating are the drones, the STANDARD enemies in this level? Pain in the backside to successfully hit and over-effective weapons. Incredible looking level when you first set foot in it, but 30 mins or so in the difficulty somewhat sours the experience, endless complex networks of tunnels, paths to mission objectives never obvious... dunno how long I spent hunting for one last lousy satchel charge.

I hated how there was absolutely no ammo for the torpedo launcher anywhere and if you use all the ammo, you couldn't even equip the weapon. That wouldn't be a big deal if you didn't need it's speed boost to make it through one underwater section before running out of air. I also got stuck for a month or so in the Hive of the Mantids. There was like a portal or something that was hidden behind a destructible wall that I never could seem to find.

Sadly, I never beat it without resorting to cheats. They shouldn't have unlocked cheats after you kill certain bosses.

>> No.3303218

The main thing I remember about this game is getting a boner when that one boss would use the move where it uses its tentacles to pull itself toward you and smash into you ass first.

So since this is a Turok thread I might as well ask. I downloaded the original Turok PC version and I'm playing it on a computer hooked up to a CRT monitor. I'm enjoying it but I was wondering if I should pick the remaster instead.

Obviously I don't care about the resolution since I'm playing on a CRT monitor, but what about the rest of the changes? What should I do?

I finished it. I can't remember if the game has difficulty levels - if so then I probably just did it on easy, maybe normal but not hard.

The game was a tedious slog. I only persisted because I paid so much for it (mostly on the basis of Edge magazine's kickback-tastic 9/10 score).

Apart from the Mag-60 the weapons all felt feeble and underwhelming. What really fucked me off was how the game appeared to rely solely on a random number generator to decide whether a hit on an enemy did damage or not.

I remember this one time I fired a grenade into the blackness and some gorilla-type thing just happened to be in its path (I couldn't see it) and the grenade exploded and killed it in one. Then another gorilla thing came at me so I fired a grenade at it, expecting the same thing but it had no effect. So I fired again and again, each grenade doing literally nothing. The gorilla eventually came right up to me and beat me up. Despite me firing about 7 grenades at it.

Fucking stupid game.

Yeah, cheated my way through it. I think I never even beat the cave at all because it sucked so much.
I haven't played it in 10 or so years, but from what I remember my biggest problem with it was the too large and too empty levels - you were running around with all that no distance black around you, shoot a mook from time to time (except when they chose to gang up on you) and have some kind of objective... Of course, back when it came out, I also fapped about the graphics, and the weapons were really fun, but somehow it dragged on and on and on.

Beat tons of games as a kid including all the other classic FPS games on both PC and N64 but I never beat Turok 1 or 2. Not because of enemy difficulty, rather I couldn't navigate the levels. I never figured out how to get past Lair of the Blind Ones in Turok 2. I explored so fucking much but just couldn't find my way to the end. My N64 memory cartridge eventually got fucked so I played through it and reached it again, and again my N64 memory stick got corrupted and I never tried again.

Had no trouble 100%ing both Perfect Dark and GoldenEye, and beat all the other classics like Doom, Blood, Quake, Duke, Shadow Warrior, etc. Always got lost in Turok.
