The main character was supposed to be one of the fat guys shown as being a referee. Then they heard about two of them going head to head a while back for a Donkey Kong score, so they decided to recreate the story and take a hell of a lot of liberties with the truth.

Wiebe and Mitchell were friendly to each other for the most part, and a lot of the stuff in the film was just purely invented.

You can easily google and find testimonials from guys who appeared in the movie speaking out against it. Funnily enough the biggest critic is the guy who was meant to be the lead character, who is TOTALLY NOT BITTER YOU GUISE.
