Well that was pretty fun, I can see why it's so highly rated, it has some ambitious amount of content. First Final Fantasy game I ever finished

The Weapons optional boss fights were the best part, any other RPG with some similar end game challenge?

Is Crisis Core worth it?

Why did the Weapons have no point storywise and just wondered around instead of fucking Sephiroth's shit up?

Because although Sephiroth was the reason they awoke, his energy barrier concealed his presence to them. They assumed that humans were the reason they awoke instead.

most of the post-FFVII JRPGs, really. While having optional, powerful bosses wasn't a new thing, FFVII really kickstarted the "+1000000HP mega secret boss" who required of extensive meta-gaming knowledge.

no

IIRC emerald and ruby weren't in the original japanese FFVII. As for the others, well, it's an JRPG, they're merely gameplay devices more than anything.

I've read that the weapons were originally intended to be creations of Sephiroth to help augment his defenses to the northern crater, but that somehow makes even less sense than the reasoning we got in the final game. Oh well, they're cool so I don't mind them being an afterthought.

I had a separate save file that I put so many fucking hours into as a kid just grinding to beat Ruby and Emerald and never was able to do it.

I'm pretty sure my problem was not having the Final Attack-Revive combo for Emerald as well as not enough AP in KOTR to just chain it enough times to get the kill.

The Planet made the Weapons to fight Jenova originally but they ended up not being needed as the Cetra already defeated her.

Try pic related. It has a very similar feel to FF7 but with QTEs.

>Is Crisis Core worth it?

No, no it is not. I know that after Dirge of Cerberus even diarrhea would be acceptable but CC is not a good game at all. It has a fanfic-tier story and characters which take a big shit on the lore carried by gameplay on par with the clunkiest, most poorly-controlling and unresponsive PSX game you can imagine.

>Why did the Weapons have no point storywise and just wondered around instead of fucking Sephiroth's shit up?

They didn't know who Sephiroth is or why the planet was in danger, only that it was in danger.

If you liked FF7 do yourself a favour and avoid every piece of spin-off material to do with it. They're all shit, especially Crisis Core.

>> No.3292848

It's pointless to play the FF7 spin-offs for story reasons because they add nothing to FF7, and also for gameplay reasons because they barely resemble FF7's gameplay if even at all—with that said Crisis Core is mildly amusing, but only in a timesink sort of way; I vaguely had fun playing it for a while but retained almost nothing. The only parts of it that aren't stupid are the Aeris/Zack backstory or anything else that's a straight retelling of something that was actually in the original game.

Advent Children is OK. Not amazing, but parts of it are nice, it gives some closure, and none of it is really offensive like some of the SOLDIER characters in Crisis Core.

The weapons actively fought against Shin-Ra. Sapphire went after Junon's reactor and got blown to bits by the Sister Ray canon, Diamond attacked Midgar and got killed by the same canon, Ultima(te) went after various reactors and cities around the world before being killed by Cloud and co.

Pretty sure their defense mechanisms were very general. That and they couldn't actually reach the Northern Crater because of the barrier.

Emerald and Ruby were AWOL in the original version of FF7 after their awakening, but were made into super bosses in the international, european and PC releases.

Most RPGs have at least as much optional content as FF7 does. At least 5th gen and up. You can literally pick your poison.

>all these posts shitting on crisis core

Thank God, I was almost worried I was the only one. Glad to see this board doesn't have /v/ tier tastes.
