Pretty shit at them, honestly.

I don't really like how they center around lots and lots of rote memorization and muscle memory.

Never mind 'git gud', I think they take way too long to even 'git competent' at.

It doesn't really help that fighting AI in these games really has -nothing- in common with fighting human opponents. There's pretty much no amount of practice against the cpu that will prepare you for a human opponent even their mechanical play is inferior.

>> No.3290454

I can understand being mocked for saying this, but if you think about it it makes sense. FPS games have always felt more "natural" to me than any other game type. You're put behind the eyes of someone, in a 3D space, and you have to look out for or locate or track or navigate yourself and others around you. Just like a typical primate in a jungle. Fighting games don't really have that for me, they are more about the button presses.

I'm decent. Unlike most people I do know how to play them, which is pretty rare apparently, but anyone who invests serious time in any given game will likely beat me because I'm pretty sporadic with my gaming, I'll game a lot for a couple weeks or so then just get burnt out and not touch a game pad for the next month, and with fighting games the only way to get great is to play a lot and to play a lot of different people

No it's not. Obviously each version has it's differences that you need to learn and get used to. But the skills do transfer over to a degree. I like to think I'm pretty good.
My best game is definitely Virtua Fighter, I hover around top 5 in my country, when I lived in North America I could hang with the best in Canada (barring a few stars) and did pretty good against the US players too.
If I went to Japan I would get fucking destroyed though!

It's a relatively tiny community, but the best players are very very good and it's a strong community.

I also play KoF games, and love to try other fighters, but at tournaments I only play KoF and VF.

I find it funny that people seem to have bad experiences with the FGC, I've made lifelong friends through it, but I have noticed everywhere I go that it seems the bigger communities (mainly Capcom games) seem to be more prickly and have a bigger share of nasty people. I found the VF and KoF communities were always very welcoming to newcomers and just chill guys that wanted to have fun playing the game.

To keep it retro, my favourite retro fighters are:
VF2 - One of the best games ever made
KoF98/UM/FE - SNK's finest IMO
KoF2k2UM - Second only to 98 I think.

I also adored Soul Calibur on Dreamcast, that game was magnificent in terms of single player content, graphics, music, everything. Never played it in terms of 'competitive' nature but it was so fun.

If it's in the game it's in the game, buddy.
KOF 98 and 2002 had entire teams of bosses to pick from. Why can't you git gud and beat them with a normal character?

One day a Japanese developer woke up and thought "Fuck, I love wasting money. Let's design a bunch of broken tier characters nobody is supposed to use".

>> No.3295540

It's arbitrary. Sometimes the FGC even comes up with its own rules to which characters are allowed to be picked, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Smash Bros Brawl are the worst offenders in this where half the roster had to be banned.

Are you really too dumb to understand why some people agreed to allow characters that are somewhat better than others (depending on game it's not even that bad, not everything is 3rd strike tier stupid) opposed to characters that were designed to be broken?
>>3295582
What does that have to do with his analogy you stupid retard? I doubt any early fighting games were designed with tournaments in mind, communities made those.

Guess how I know you've never been near a vagina in your entire life. There should be some kind of video game that explains how vaginas are foul cesspools that do not ever, ever, not once, ever, in the history of life or fantasy, have tasted good.

There is a difference between "strong" and "designed to be broken".
Same reason Akuma is banned in SFII and Dural is banned in VF, they are specifically designed to be boss battles and are in no way balanced for fair play.

Sometimes a boss character gets re balanced into a playable character, like Rugal in 98!

I thought only Meta Knight was banned at one point in Brawl's history, and everyone is tournament legal in MvC 2, even Setinel.

I loathe the fighting game community and don't really have a lot of fun with the genre in general. I find the fighting games I like best have some sort of gimmick to them, that's why I'm having so much fun with Aggressors of Dark Kombat right now. I played for hours last night trying to git gud.

Have you met the fighting game community in real life? Most of the internet children don't even come out to real meetups and just hang out in twitch. Most of the community are really great guys, especially the smaller games.
