The satisfaction of shoving a Game Genie on top of a Sonic & Knuckles can only be achieved in the real world with a good lag-free monitor and lag free joystick. You can't get world record high scores on an emulator and expect anyone to respect them.

Emulating is a very different action and an entirely different feeling to sitting down on a couch or disconnecting from the computer and going and playing a self-contained, beginning to end video game. Progressing, exploring the game, etc.

All of that is ruined in my mind knowing that a little chip in the card is just giving me a ton of "arcade" choices. It reminds me of those shitty plug n play consoles with 1,000 games in one. It's not the same thing at all as actually playing a game, having the cartridge, knowing you've beaten it, etc.

Plus I'm not willing to pay the ridiculous prices people are asking for certain games these days. The average price of retro games is starting to get more expensive than brand new games. I'll happily buy an Everdrive and save myself thousands.

Are we really arguing about what is or isn't actually "playing" the game? It's like saying you didn't actually watch a movie unless it was a 35mm film print, you're arguing semantics when someone playing on original hardware vs someone emulating get 99% the same experience. I collect old games because I like having a physical copy and I like playing on original hardware, but I really do not understand how you possibly say someone who emulated the game or played it on a flash cart (seriously? Are we at that point?) didn't REALLY play the game. Shut the fuck up and play some damn games instead of trying to invalidate anyone who doesn't play the game the exact same way you did.
