How much would you/did you pay for this game? It's a game I really like, but it's kind of expensive and I'm trying to decide if I should buy it or not.

>> No.3274154

Get the GBA version. Not only is it not retardedly expensive like this, but it's actually a tighter game.

Or if you're not retro, get Heavenly Guardian on PS2. It's from the same development team.

The GBA version looks like it's ridiculously expensive too. I'd rather spend a lot of money on SNES game than on a GBA game.

Are you kidding me? The GBA game is dogshit.
OP: Pocky & Rocky is an amazing game, especially with a co-op bro. The sequel, though, is really shallow and rushed and its 2-player mode is an obvious afterthought as well.
Both of them run fine on a flash cart though so I'd rather invest in that.

Spent 90 at a con for it.
Had it as a kid but a cousin stole it, loved it so much I spent the cash.
It's a super fun game, really fun co-op and super difficult. Only this year I beat it by myself because I'm an old fart now with no friends and a lot of time on my hands.

Great, great game.

I paid $200 for mine but its CIB. Pocky 2 on the other hand I spent more than double that. These two games are mad expensive as is most of the good games in the SNES library. Take it from me tho, Pocky 2 isn't nearly as good as the first one.

Can you elaborate?

I've often felt like the way they changed auctions so you can set reserve bids caused prices on auctioned games to shoot up (to the point where its almost always cheaper to just go with Buy it Now). I'd like to hear which policy change you're referring to.

>>3275226
Also consider that just about every SNES game has at least doubled in price since 2011, but yeah it was especially bad for less common games like Pocky and Rocky.

Pre 2013 a fixed price auction and reserves cost money to list. Around $1-$4. Sometimes more depending on the year.
2013 and later you can list fixed price auction for free.

That's why you see reseller scum relist something for months. It's free to do so.

My personal metric is: does the game cost more now than when it was released? If it's a truly great game I'll even factor in inflation.

>> No.3278110

>>3277401
Yeah, that is about my limit. If it is more than what it sold for new, it's something I will likely A) emulate on the Wii or B) trade up too.

Now as for the thread in general: Sure. I would like to pay $1 or $2 bucks for every game and if I thrift stored everyday and yard-saled every weekend in a few years I could possibly get everything I wanted for that price. But I no longer have weekends off, I have a girlfriend, and I would just rather spend $20-30 on games or more on occasion than spend that much in gas hunting all over creation and maybe not even find stuff I want.

Maybe dropping money I earned on something I like and want to have isn't a "waste" and so long as I ain't paying some astronomical number over what it typically goes for I don't think I am hurting anyone.

To answer OP's question: I paid $60 for Pocky and Rocky about 3 years ago. It was at a con and it was a game I shared with many friends that week, and the good memories are worth paying what was a fair price then and a GREAT price now.

Is it worth like the $100ish bucks it commands now? Well, I would say it breaks my rule of do not pay more than what a new copy sold for and I'd possibly see if I could trade some stuff in to offset the cost.

But I would also say it's hard,it's fun, its challenging and you will probably feel like you got your moneys worth.

Only if you were poor. CD players became available in 1982. Even my broke ass family had switched over by 85. The SNES was released in NA in 1991.

We were still using cassettes in the car, but we certainly weren't buying any new ones.

Man, now all I can think about is the stupid headphone to cassette adapter and trying to keep a discman from skipping on the way to swim meets.

>> No.3278429

So only the middle class and lower couldn't afford a CD player that costs a thousand bucks that wad unnecessary because cassettes were vastly cheaper. It must be nice being rich.

>> No.3278447

>>3278429
Hahaha. Either you're not from the time, or you have a shitty memory. We got our first CD player in the form of an RCA boom box in 85. It was no more than 200 dollars. I would put us in lower middle class. My mother owned her own business in the form of a pottery shop. It never made money. It was just her hobby that she tried to make a go of. Dad worked 2 jobs.

To this day, they have never owned a new vehicle. Never taken a vacation more than a state away, and if it wasn't for military service and 2 pensions, My dad wouldn't have been able to retire.

CD players weren't that expensive. Sony and Phillips had a vested interest in making the player tech available to any manufacture that wanted to churn out cheap product because to this day, they make money on every CD or CD-Rom sold. Yeah, teh CDs themself weren't cheap, but my parents weren't paying for the music. They provided the player because we asked for it, and the kids were buying CDs with money from lawn mowing, babysitting and paper routes.

Except me. I bought games.

and do you think that market share may have increased at all in the 6 years before the SNES was released?

They weren't that expensive. Sure, for a full home theater deck, it was pricey, by for a portable boom box? nah. I have very fond memories of playing Weird Al's Dare to be Stupid on the CD deck while playing SMW. Shit. By 91 the CD player was standard in every car. To even have a cassette deck in the car was weird.

Not him, but there're two things wrong with your post.
One: in 1985, CD players were far, far, FAR more expensive than you're implying, considering that in 1988, the median price for a boombox was $290. I remember that because it caused a huge argument in my family when my sister saved up all her jewgolds and cash from all her charlady work to buy one. My parents were pissed that she'd squandered her money on it rather than saved it or put it towards something else. Like a car. The argument was that my brother bought a car for around that much and that my sister was a dumb cunt for not doing the same.

Secondly, you're forgetting what $200 was back in 1985. Even if a boombox in 1985 did cost only $200 back then (it didn't), that would have been equal to about $450 of today's money. By contrast, cassette decks in 1985 were only around $50 (or around $120 of today's dollaridoos).
It's cute that you're trying so hard to seem older than you are, but at least do some research first, kiddo.
