PSX = 104 million units sold
Saturn did not even break 10 million.

Saturn had 4 games which sold 1 million copies or more worldwide:

Virtua Cop - shit arcade port with already dated graphics to psx's time crisis. The PSX light gun also was much more accurate.

Daytona USA - botched Saturn port of a old game. Compare to Gran Turismo.

Sega Rally - Daytona USA on dirt. Literally minutes of replay.

Virtua Fighter 2 - The worst Virtua Fighter port that wasn't even done by AM2. Literally the 32X original Virtua Fighter plays better. Such shit compared to Tekken series.

Not a troll, but it's pretty interesting that now a days Saturn seems to have the reputation as an arcade gamers console. As someone who bought a Saturn on that surprise launch day, I remember everyone saying its arcade ports were weak and that the PlayStation was the arcade man's system (i.e Daytona vs Ridge Racer). Makes me happy Saturn's reputation finally turned around in that aspect, at least on the internet.

Or how bout another Capcom fighter that are supposedly much better on Saturn? PSX wins this one. Look at the grainy intro on the Saturn.

Samurai Shodown IV has slightly less loading times on the Saturn, but zero difference in appearance.

You don't know what "grainy" means, these look identical with only slightly different colors, and that's probably because of the emulator.

>Samurai Shodown IV has slightly less loading times on the Saturn, but zero difference in appearance.
From the very start i noticed that the animation cut on the PS1 is garbage, just look at that stance.

>But Metal Slug has more fluid animation and faster loading times on PSX.

>I always hear how the PSX version looks like garbage compared to the Saturn version.

Alpha 1 doesn't exactly push the hardware too hard. Check out Alpha 2 onwards. But I guess that's the reason you haven't linked them.

Even so, Alpha 1 has obviously less frames on PS1 even if the graphics look the same if you aren't paying attention.

>Look at the grainy intro on the Saturn.

FMV is better on PS1 because it's literally a cinema machine. But try comparing the Alpha 2 intro. On Saturn it's beautiful live drawn sprites, while on PS1 they literally put a grainy video of the arcade's intro because it couldn't handle it in real time.

>Samurai Shodown IV has slightly less loading times on the Saturn, but zero difference in appearance.

Sure if you don't notice the difference in frames.

>But Metal Slug has more fluid animation and faster loading times on PSX

lmao

Just check the water. PS1 has like half the frames. It has so few frames the water just flickers. Also the Saturn version doesn't have to do fucking mid-level loads.

>In the Hunt is nearly identical as well.

About the only one I'll give, but this is infamous for not being any better on Saturn.

>Alpha 2 is better.
Just like Alpha 1 is better right? Cause I'm noticing that the Saturn version of Alpha cut off the left part of the world on the menu screen. It also is black in the middle on the menu because it can't layer like the PSX.

>IDK what grainy means.
It means jagged compared to smooth. Look at the still pictures of Ken in the intro. Grainy as hell v. smooth.

>Samurai Shodown IV is clearly better on Saturn.
The difference between you and me is I post evidence to back up my claim. The video is there. Identical.

>Metal Slug animation better on the Saturn.
You can tell its worse immediately. Look how many parts of the tank are moving and the speed of it versus the PSX.

>It means jagged compared to smooth.

>The difference between you and me is I post evidence to back up my claim. The video is there. Identical.
The evidence is clear in the animation you dumb piece of shit, not my problem if you are a blind dog

>Look how many parts of the tank are moving and the speed of it versus the PSX.
I can clearly see how the tank has more animation on the saturn, just like the casacade, the water, the blood, the explosions, the walking etc. The PS1 looks like shit with like 2 frames of animations and load times every 30 seconds.

>Want to compare game libraries instead of minor graphical details?

Nintendo = makes games
Sega = makes games
Sony = doesn't give a SHIT about games
Microsoft = doesn't give a SHIT about games

Why gaming is so shit nowadays? Because actual game companies don't make the game hardware anymore like they did in the '80s and early '90s.

Neither PS1 nor Saturn are made for handling sprites. Saturn has a background tilemapper but that's not the same thing as sprites.

PS1 actually is faster at doing *pseudo-sprites* than Saturn because its memory / fill rate is faster.

Saturn uses quadrilateral polygons which are easier to flatten and then process as sprites, though. So while PSX had a faster memory throughput, the Saturn could actually do far more with its sprites than the PSX can.

You don't seem to understand (the use of the word 'flatten' gives it away anyway). Quadrilaterals just save slightly on CPU overhead when doing 2D, but CPU was never an issue in 2D games in 5th generation anyway.

It's the texturing overhead which really counts, and it's the same whether you're mapping textures to a quad or two triangles. Except that the Saturn's sprite VRAM is 114.5 MB/s, and the Playstation's VRAM is around 266 MB/s. Over double.

>> No.3235081

No fuckin shit. It's a bunch of clouds. What looks better is the details and scrolling effects that blow Raiden 2 out of the water. Of course you're going to keep praising Raiden though because you're trying to make the PSX seem good at 2D when it really is not. And by the way, there are many stages in Garegga with interactive backgrounds, go and actually play the game before you spout off shit next time.

>the first boss alone is more impressive than most bosses in Garegga.

Gives what away exactly? Textures would be flattened onto the polygons to give the impression of sprites. What other word would you use, you autist?

Let's also not forget that the Saturn could push 500k flat-textured polies while the PSX was only capable of ~350k which allowed for the crisper sprite animations you see in 2D games. Compounded with the RAM upgrades that the Saturn would get in the future and the PSX doesn't stand a chance. Also the VRAM bandwidth of the PSX is only 132mb/s, you liar. Not that much off from the Sega Saturn's. And that's just ignoring that the SS had a wholly separate chip dedicated to rendering five simultaneous background layers. The Saturn was a fucking 2D beast.

It's literally one layer of scrolling, not impressive at all you retard

I have 1cc'd Battle Garegga you piece of shit, the destructible backgrounds are much simpler than the ones on Raiden II. In Raiden II the sprites directly intereract with the backgrounds destruction every time, hell even the little particles make a splash in the water. In garegga the destruction is much simpler and only works with certain objects you bomb.

Garegga still has more interactive environments. Look at the flamingo secret for proof.

Well no shit sherlock, one is a fucking plane and the other is a tank. Still Garegga's first boss has more phases and parts to it than the shitty walking tank. You probably just bombed through it and didn't even take time to see what all it can actually do like a retard.

>Let's also not forget that the Saturn could push 500k flat-textured polies while the PSX was only capable of ~350k

Don't go by the values on the box of the console, they are useless. Saturn could only do 500k polygons if they were non-textured, non-shaded, 8-bit paletted, and something like 4x4 in size.

Without even taking into consideration the amount of math power you need to calculate their location and collissions.

Also if you did 500k poly a second, you had no space left for textures due to only 512k vram.

There's a reason why practically every Saturn game suffers from slowdown.

The polygons are already flat. There is no z-coordinate when you are doing 2D. You would set up T&L to work with polygons directly in 2D screen space.

>Also the VRAM bandwidth of the PSX is only 132mb/s, you liar

The flamingos are interactive from a gameplay point of view, not graphics. That entire level is pretty dull graphics--wise compared to the first level of Raiden II, only the houses are destructible, everything else is static and dull. In Raiden II the destruction in trees, houses, water etc is much more impressive to look at.

>Well no shit sherlock, one is a fucking plane and the other is a tank
Still most bosses in Garegga aren't even close to that tank.
