I couldn't find a dedicated STG thread, so I'll borrow this one.

I don't visit here often so I'll be blunt, do you have one of these neat compilation sheets for STG games?

I try to catch-up to the better known series like R-type or gradius. But it seems at every corner I am surprised by a new apparently well known title I never knew existed.

Failing that can you give me your favorite picks? Preferably sci-fi themed, bonus points for giant robots.

Personally I recently tried Strikers 1945, I enjoyed it greatly.

Ikaruga was probably my default but when I played DDP: DOJ it just seemed so to the point kind of simplistically as a STG, that I define that as my go to.

I've gotta say, after all the STGs i've played Ikaruga is still my favorite. With DDP Daioujou being a close second.

I wouldn't say Ikaruga is the ultimate STG but it's pretty damn good.
