I want to live in a world where all 3D Sonic games were like the ones on Sega Saturn.

I never understood why they couldn't make a full game out of this, sonic R was a fast paced game so why don't mix that with this and get shit done.

Without a doubt.

The N64 had Super Mario 64, still heralded as the greatest shit ever today, meanwhile Sega dropped the ball entirely with getting Sonic on the Saturn, I mean we had a racing game and Mega Drive ports..

Imagine if a true 3D Sonic had been released that competed with Super Mario 64. May have totally shifted the tides of the Saturn's fate.

I do still love my Saturn though.

If there's no gameplay footage, how would we know if the game would be the same deal as the 3D world in Sonic Jam?

Pretty much. I'm sure Saturn would have sold better if it had a game everyone needed. But it also had some pretty bad timing when people still played Genesis.

I would too, the color and design of everything is just really unique and comfy. As someone who grew up with Nintendo I became really sad to learn Sega practically shit itself all over any opportunity to keep this sort of creative drive going.

but if anything, I'd settle for some of the music to come back. The games, design and all that, say what you want but I don't know what the hell happened to the music.

Yeah, but what I meant that they rendered the scene in advance and played it as an FMV, as opposed to playing it in real time. You can see it from the completely different shading.

No, it's a hub world in Sonic Jam where you can do some mini games. It was actually an early test for what would become Sonic Adventure.

>>3219401

Pretty sure the images are pre rendered, but the video is almost certainly something from in-game, considering they play it with the exact same animations in the final version.

>It was actually an early test for what would become Sonic Adventure.

I don't know how much of that is true considering that
- Xmas Nights had you running around as Sonic in Nights completely freely already, half a year before Sonic Jam
- they made Burning Rangers next, only then worked on Adventure
- all of those used the same game engine

I mean it's like saying Sonic 1 was an early test for what would became Sonic & Knuckles.

Christmas NiGHTS' Sonic mode didn't run on a modified engine or anything, though.

I'd agree with you on it being like saying Sonic 1 being a test for Sonic and Knuckles, but there was no reason for them to put the Sonic World mode into Sonic Jam unless it was to show off what they had done so far. It's pretty barren with nothing to do, so what's the point of putting it in otherwise?

I think he meant Adventure. Which is also stupid. Now if he said Adventure 2 or ShadOW the EDGEhog I could see his point. He'd be wrong, but I could see his argument.

Newsflash buddy, pretty much everyone in the world who's ever played a Sonic game except you eats up the soundtrack of nearly any given Modern game like there's no fucking tomorrow, myself included. After playing the Adventure games, I personally rank their soundtracks above CD's Japanese soundtrack, which was formerly my favorite. By the way,

The talk of Jam being an SA proto is right. In an interview, Naka confirmed theyd started working on Adventure for Saturn, but stopped as the DC was being planned.

I think Jam is a nice engine and I'd be curious to see what itd be like with a bit more refinement and time spent to maoe a full game.
Imagine if it'd came out at the start of the Saturn's life in the same quality. Wow.

I do wish that there was a whole game of sonic 3ds bonus levels. They were awesome

What kills me about Sonic Adventure is that in the test stages and in beta Windy Valley they clearly tried to make the game more like the classics (more wavy level design, more emphasis on using momentum to get around instead of speed boosters constantly propelling you forward) but at some point they either gave up or were forced to make it more "action oriented".

Any time I hear Iizuka refer to Sonic as an "action" game I die a little more inside. Because "action" is just code for "not platforming".

Played it. It's short, unchallenging, a little spotty with framerates, and crashed a few times when I was doing the super secret level. All said I'd recommend it if it had more content.

OP should look into Sonic Robo Blast. Runs in a heavily modified Doom engine, environments are 3D and have multiple levels, unfortunately no loops and sprites instead of 3D models, but it's pretty dope. My only recommendation for that is if you wanna avoid getting frustrated as fuck by the end maybe play as Tails, or get very acquainted with how slippery as fuck Sonic is, the second last level requires a great deal of control.

That has to be why it is such a popular feature to be able to play your own MP3s under games ever since the Xbox. Because nobody wants to mute that shit and play their own music instead.
