Just finished Crash 1-3 and CTR, they were a bit on the easy side. CTR was the first thing I played on the PS1, 3D grafx blew my mind into smithereens.

to be fair, It took me a month to find the name of pic related, based of of nothing but me remembering playing the first level when i was six.

Probably Abe's Oddysee or CMR 2.0, not sure.
>Absolute favorite game?
I just totally adore the first Parasite Eve. That or Gran Turismo 2
>That obscure game you love but doesn't get enough love on the internet?
I rarely see Shadow Tower mention anywhere. It's far better than the King's Field games on the PS1.

CTR for the first time. Somehow it flew under my radar, but it's amazing

Ps1 demo disc, vertical shootem up, had 2 player capability. that's all I remember. maybe 3d polygons for player/enemy ships. the space cover art really really feels close.

In fact, it's getting back into Tactics that made me develop a whole new appreciation for it. When I first played it back in the day I thought it was slow and the story impenetrable. Now I can appreciated that I was a snot-nosed teenager who liked angsty, edgy heroes instead of gritty warfare and realpolitik.

Descent Maximum. Totally expect to get shit on for this one, however as someone who grew up playing the Descent series on pc with just a 2 button joystick, being able to fully control my craft without using a dozen other keyboard keys felt like a godsend. Plus something just felt right being able to control the ship with both sticks and fire with shoulder buttons.

Growing up, I was the only one interested in vidya in a family of 5. I wasn't able to convince my mom to buy me a new system every couple of years or so, so Playstation is one I just decided to pass up on. Years alter, I'm finally getting caught up and playing some of those PS1 games my friends were always talking about. Started FF7 a while ago, it's slow going, but I'm enjoying it. Materia system is fun, music is great, and I'm a sucker for some nice, pre-rendered backgrounds. It's pretty comfy to come home after a long day at work and just let a game absorb me for a few hours. I'd forgotten what that was like.

Besides FF7, my queue is:
>FF9
>Grandia
>Symphony of the Night
>Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (I loved HM64 and was jealous of my friend who was playing both of these at the same time)
>Rayman
>Wild Arms
>Chrono Cross
A lot of JRPGs, I hated them as a kid, but finally got into them with age, and I realize the PS1 has a lot of acclaimed ones. I know people will likely suggest MGS and Resident Evil, but those just aren't my kind of games. I'd give Crash Bandicoot a try, but I really think it looks like hot garbage.

I plan on building my collection, physically, as money comes in and I can, but in the mean time, FREE GAMES.

As a Nintendo Kid, I missed out on all Playstation 1 games, and now I'm diving in. What games are amazing that I've missed? Already have the Crash games on my list.

First game was Crash 2, favourite would be probably the Oddworld series. That's today, but 5-10 years ago I'd probably say Final Fantasy VII.

One game that doesn't get much recognition nowadays, and one that I really liked, was Critical Depth, an underwater mix of Twisted Metal and Descent. Campy, 50s sci-fi plot, nice soundtrack, partially destructible environments and a varied roster of characters. Also the first Tomba, an obscure Jap platformer.

As for games that I'd like to see translated - Mizzurna Falls, a Twin Peaks-inspired adventure game with an open world.

>> No.3185973

>>3185891
If you like hand-crafted platformers dripping with unique sci-fi atmosphere, play Oddworld. Easily one of the best platformers/puzzle games of the late 90s.
