Hey /vr/ what's everyone's coping technique for when you realize that you'll never play all of the games that you want to play, especially if you're an anal-retentive completionist like me?

Acceptance of reality. I recommend trying it some day.

I cope by lowering myself to the level of an emufag.

Then I flagellate myself afterwards.
Because I deserve it.

This.
I was like OP but after my life has gotten busier I've just had to accept I gotta be more selective about the games I want to play, rather than play everything. At least I have a log of about 400 completed games, so that's nice. My "coping" mechanism has been to remove lower tier interests from my enormous backlog, which used to include about 3500 videogames, ranging across most systems, years and scenes, including a bunch of doujin shit. I've managed to trim it down gradually to like 50 games I wanna finish.

>> No.3171847

>>3171654
OP here, that's a good plan. What I've been doing is pretending my backlog is only a maximum of 5 games long, focus on beating those 5 or fewer games, then building a new backlog. I call them my "playlists" and I try to stick to them pretty diligently.

But who's going to play the games in OP's pic in perfect emulation with my i7 rig and big ol' 4k monitor?

Stay salty you whacky little bitch, top fucking kek.

That and alcoholism

I was pretty impressed he actually included a bunch of western games in there, no discrimination

Most of that stuff isn't for me but he's following his shining star, good for OP

How do you decide what goes in your backlog and what stays?

>> No.3172227

Easy, I don't keep a back log of any kind.

When you keep a back log it is bound to become impossibly huge and then you can become overwhelmed by it. I learned that by doing it with movies in the past.

All I do is every now and then I'll just load up an emulator and look though a compleate rom set, find a name I'm not familiar with and load it at random.

I'll make notes of games I liked and just 4-5 words of why I liked them if I wanted to revisit them, but otherwise, I've played FAR more games (and found diamonds in the rough) just loading up ones at random then I ever did with a list.

never thought of the etymology of it

but flagellate is indeed harm, perhaps its a flagellum that got its name by resembling a whip's movement, as farmer harms his animals.

Don't worry OP, I have the same issue.

I'm not that much of a conpletionist, though. My issues the other way around. I own a ton of games, but after I get a couple hours in to one, I get really curious about another. It can be a real pain sometimes.

By far, my worst issue is not knowing exactly what I want to play. For example, a few days ago, I had the day off from work, and I was in the mood to play a JRPG. I started playing through some of my old standbys, but they weren't exactly what I had in mind.

I spent the whole day trying out roms, after that. That, in itself was a bit of fun, though.

I play the first 10 minutes of the game.

If it feels like a chore I stop playing and watch a speedrun on youtube at x2 speed.

Consider it complete.

Well that's just silly. No one here is going to do that.

>> No.3173374

It actually makes me happy because I know I'll never run out of stuff to play no matter how shitty modern games get.

Also for the modern games I do buy, I don't bother getting them at release because I have so much other stuff to play, and then I get the modern game for like $5 later on.

I pick five of my top-tier interests and put anything else on the backburner. It is hard to decide which games are the five at a time, but I manage
