ITT: anti-classics. The games that no one really likes but are always there.

Why the fuck this game was ported to every platform? Even PS, in fucking 2003!

Another one, also ported to Playstation, because every Playstation owner begged for a Alfred Chicken port.

Ten. Plus an upcoming remake on the PS4.

I bet that when the PS4 remake comes out, people will crawl out of the woodwork saying that the "original was better", that it was "dumbed down" and whatever else they rant about.

Meanwhile, I, someone who has played it to completion will say "Fuck off, Shadow of the Beast was shit."

The arcade game is... well, ok and actually innovative for its time, but fuck with those 9999 ports, they vary from so bad it's fun to "please kill me".

Pit-Fighter got 11 ports. Well, at least no port for PS2 or DS. Pit-Fighter is awful, but the arcade was somewhat popular.

What's strange with Alfred Chicken, Soccer Kid/Kid Kleets and James Pond 2: Robocod is that they keep porting those games to every platform even today and this crap never was really popular.

I have several British cousins and they have assured me that James Pond is a thing to them, and apparently somewhat well-loved.

But then again they always used to go on about Repton like I'm supposed to know what the fuck that is.

Probably because of its availability, James Pond was this game you couldn't help but end up owning because of well meaning aunts and grandparents. That said, plenty of worse shovelware out there, Pond was at least polished and playable.

Wasn't on that many systems, but everyone had a copy despite it being such a shit game and oddly drab for being based on such a colorful movie. A shame, there where far better Batman tie-ins out there.
Also, for a game that had Follin bros scoring it, it didn't sound that special.

Not him, but I've played them and they deserve their reputation. The platforming physics are good, but the presentation, level design and story reek of British Amiga bedroom coder.

>> No.3163295

Britbong Amiga-owner here. Soccer Kid and James Pond were well liked over here because they were homegrown answers to Mario/Sonic at the time, that were popular on home computers that didn't have Mario/Sonic.

As for why always James Pond 2, the first game is missionbased underwater sections and being a fish, you're pretty useless out of water. 2 turned it all into a Mario clone, giving Pond a robosuit for out of water shenanigans. 3 adds Sonic elements and gravity weirdness and isn't as solid as 2, but still fun. Only played the MD version of 3 as I never had a powerful enough Amiga.

The Amiga version of Soccer Kid is pretty decent, they cut a lot out of the console versions for space so it's a much shorter game - there's like 3 worlds per country and getting the World Cup pieces becomes like Chaos Emeralds in Sonic, so there's a lot of searching for all the soccer cards.

Klax has some good ports. The Genesis version (the US/EU one, not the JP one), the TurboGrafx port, and the GBC port are my favs. GBC one mainly because of all of the bonus minigames and stuff that you can access through passwords.

As for Zoop, I prefer the Genesis/SNES versions 'cause the backgrounds aren't as much of a mess as those on the PS1/Saturn versions, and the music's much better than the generic 90s techno from those.

>>3155105
SNES Pit Fighter is fucking TRASH. Absolutely terrible, same with the Game Boy port. The Master System one is somewhat enjoyable, somehow.
