Anyone else? Pic related did it for me. Powerful story telling from a beautiful game that's arguably the greatest game on the PSX.

Please keep it /vr/.

I agree Vivi had a good story. For me it was when Squall was in space floating to Rinoa. I LOVE FFVIII and that whole part of the story really got to me.

>> No.3150463

yes, wander from shadows of the colossus. his face was so blank and gave of an overwhelming"i don't care what happens to me, as long as she is resurrected". sad stuff

Not CRY, but tear up, yeah.
Cyan in FFVI as a character was the first character in a game to really jerk moisture out of my eye.

Plenty of retro games did the same though.
FFVIII the most, especially the ending with Laguna.

FFVIIIfag from above. I've never met another anon on 4chan that didn't shit all over FFVIII. Glad to see you enjoyed FFVIII too!

FFVIII was a great game and would have been my favorite if it weren't for the whole amnesiac orphan thing. FFX was all feels and the twist of tidus being a dream of the fayth and disappearing was quite sad.

Fukkin love 8. Anyone I see hating on it I just chalk up to "oh he's one of those kinds of fags you can give a gram of coke to and he'd complain about the baggie it's in".

Anyway, I won't continue to turn this into a FF8 thread.

I wish I could get into ff8.

I got it on steam and had to put it down after 15 mins.

>> No.3151519

VIII was the only game in the series I had any emotional attachment to the characters. Felt good at the ending, like that feeling when a movie is over and you're like "that was a good movie".

I don't know how people get all blubbery over Vivi and IX, I didn't feel much in that game, just admired the art direction.

Weren't the first 15 mins of ff8 one of the most comfy of all games?

>> No.3151534

>>3151527
The Balamb Garden is super comfy, but the entire game world is pretty fucking cool. It easily has the most believable and lived-in look for a FF game.

If it wasn't for monsters roaming the countryside, I'd love to live there.

I didn't like the game but I loved Vivi and his background.
I'm glad to see praise for FFVIII as I liked the game, my only complaint being the magic system.

I cried several times playing video games. The earliest I can remember is the ending of Link's Awakening. The most intense though was the ending of Silent Hill 2.

I play a ton of RPGs but oddly enough when I think about it, I don't think I've ever even been close to tears playing one. Cried plenty watching different anime but never a game even not retro. Hm, anyone got any sad as shit games I may not have played?

>> No.3151674

No tears but in Final Fantasy Tactics a certain character's death left me with a strong feeling of injustice.

When poor, innocent Teta gets skewered by Algus' crossbow shot. Never before have I been so angry at pixels

My favorite aspect of FFVIIII too anon. It has a very contemporary feel to it which I really liked. I really dug the idea of SeeD and the Gardens. I spent much of my youth wishing I was a child soldier.

Something that I never felt in another game happened with me on Dark Souls, i felt broken, hopeless, alone, not exactly sad, more numb, and it got much worst when i had to kill solaire, i used to be really happy to see him because i would have someone to talk with that is not weird or spooky.

A lot of the first Mother did this to me, to be honest.

There's something stark, unsettling, and heartbreaking within it that even Mother 3 can't match.

When I was a kid I was so used to Heroes being invincible and untouchable that the Green with Evil two parter in power rangers really surprised me, that was as far as I thought it could go in terms of Heroes "losing" but then in my first Video game I reach the the second run to Hellena Prison and Lavitz dies ....I was shocked Crying and absolutely wrecked and even to this day I still have trouble with that part of the game Seeing him again in Mayfil and the subsequent boss fight with his posses Soul was one of the most infuriating and depressing fights I have ever been through

Not really. I got a little misty at the end of FF6 when Shadow told Interceptor to go on his own because animal, but I think that's about it. Never had a serious cry or bawl over a game because you're never with the characters long enough to really form any emotional connection. Even a 50 hour RPG isn't enough because that sort of stuff takes years to grow.

came here to post this.

Aerith was more of whuuuuut moment than actually sad.

But that shit was beautiful and very emotional, finding out that his father was this great hero that gave his life to save the village and that Cosmo Canyon music kicks in a just the right moment, its my favorite moment in any RPG.

This one was tragic, but not as unfair. Imo, Delita was ruthless to achieve power so he could finally bring peace and justice in a troubled period. I felt his motives were ultimately good, while he had to be a sneaky bastard until the epilogue.

Ovelia should have went with the flow and be a docile queen. But no, disgusted by this man's treacherous attitude she wants to assassinate him, fails and as expected he retaliates. Was he going to let her live and allow all he had worked so hard to build crumble? All the sacrifices that would be for naught? By this action, she caused her own demise.

Yes, I would have prefered for Ovelia to live, but her candor and intransigence were her downfall.

One of the signs of autism is not being able to empathize or form emotional connections. This isn't something to be ashamed of, just make sure you're getting proper treatment and it'll be okay.

i empathize with real people and with well written characters in movies and books. the thing about video games is that they don't have well written characters, or stories for that matter. video game characters seem more to me like dolls than people.

that said, what does empathy have to do with crying? it's common to have one without the other you fucking bonehead. what an arbitrary connection.
