Tell me about the Saturn. How does its library stack up in comparison to the N64/PS1?

Is it worth buying one a building up a library? I've heard Saturn emulation is a crapshoot, but that was more than a decade ago so I'm not sure if its gotten any better since then.

>> No.3150782

Saturn is fucking tits if you like ports of early 90s arcade games and real Japanesey shit.

>> No.3150790

Saturn library is actually fucking great but half of it is Japanese Only and 40% of the rest is expensive as fuck

>> No.3150792

It doesn't have the huge number of shovelware nugamer shit that ended up destroying the industry that the N64 and PS1 did. It had a few, of course, but the rest of the library was pretty much console gaming's last hurrah.

>> No.3150825

The library is expensive as hell right now, I don't recommend it. US games are more expensive than there japanese counterparts and the japan only releases that are worth a damn are also very expensive.

The library is much smaller and tighter in terms of quality than the Playstation, but this gives creates an optical illusion for nostaligistic people. The library for the Playstation may have more shovelware, but it has tons more quality games and at more reasonable prices, most of which were released in the US. (sorry if your not the in the US, also, i don't play or collect on the N64 so i can not help you there either)

It's great. So great I have a dozen of them. And huge box full of sealed jap games. Because 10 of them are modded.

>> No.3151362

The Saturn really doesn't compare to the PS1 and N64.

I'm not saying that because it's better or worse, but because the library is different from what you would expect to find on the other 5th gen consoles.

It's an arcade machine for the most part, and it excelled at 2D games. The PS1 had its fair share of arcade ports as well, but they were usually worse than on the Saturn. One notable exception is DoDonPachi, which was better on PS1.

Hey there SM64 guy. At it again, aren't you?

>> No.3151721

It all depends on what you're into. To me, as someone who just started collecting for it, the Sega Saturn is an awesome console with great exclusives. The games are pricey but if you're someone who likes quick arcade-like experiences it's for you. Those types of games didn't interest me much growing up but now that I'm older and and don't have much free time, I feel myself gravitating to those types of arcadey games and the Saturn has loads of them.

For longer experiences, there are a few RPGs and while they're good they're also super expensive. Dragon Force is an awesome game that's a Saturn exclusive and Magic Knight Rayearth is cool too. Albert Oddessy is another but they're over $100 each.

Imports are a lifesaver but of course RPGs aren't so great in another language. Panzer Dragoon 1&2 are nice imports, and the Saturn version of Mega Man X3 is pretty cool.

It really comes down to what kind of gamer you are, OP

It's fine if you want to solder a chip, but pseudosaturn is also a pretty valid option.

I think vaporwave itself is not meant to be actual good music, it's a satire of 90s consumism society and "AESTHETICS" (they put more effort into the making of their virtual releases than the actual music tracks).

As far as I know, vaporwave exists as a novelty, and it's meant to be like that, the shallow, commercial sound mixed with obscure vocal samples or melodies are there just as a novelty. It's kitsch, post-ironic stuff.
Of course there are people that find the music comfortable to listen to, these guys would probably also like Enya.

Expect to see this a lot guy who's asking about Saturn emulation.

This idiots can't handle any criticism about their favorite emulator.

If you want to set it up I recommend finding a guide. I can't link to google. If you come here and ask for help you'll be namecalled and if you get a link it's shit that barely works if it all.

None of it. He's probably a moron who checks every setting without looking up what shit like the VDP1 block is.

Thanks for proving my argument that using a guide will help and save "3 hours" to set things up, dip shit.

They can't. Chunks of the original code have been lost and there's some 'other reasons' that no-one will talk about.

Yeah, definitely. For me, those games are FF9 and Persona 4. I always tell RPG fans to play those games, but I know they almost certainly won't like them in the same way I do. It's rather lonely, in a way.

Dude, I was just asking. I've never tried Saturn emulation before. I was honestly wondering what about it took 3 hours.

And why are you acting like the thread is full of anti-emu shitposting when it's been a friendly conversation about it? Chill out.

No backpeddling. I still think it was justified given the way you were acting. It's that you are trying to pull the child card after your little crying session that's funny.

Wasn't it already put on PC ages ago? I remember playing a demo for it, thinking it was fun and then getting hype seeing an Orta trailer at the end of the demo only to realize it was only on Xbox.

nope. PD and Zwei made it over. PDS is stranded on the saturn, Orta on the ecksbawks

There are some good games you can get for super cheap. Layer Section, House of the Dead, and Gale Racer are in the 20 dollar range. Accessories such as the wheel and stick don't cost a whole lot either, so its easy to get the proper peripheral for your game.

I bought one and had it switched, which involved inserting a 60 Hz switch, making it universal and having the 4 meg ram cartridge. I essentially did all this so I could play arcade perfect capcom fighters.

Did get panzer dragoon as well though.
