Easy NES games? I'm tired of feeling like a girl because I can't beat any

>> No.3128145

Mario 1 isn't too bad. Zelda isn't either. I even beat both of those games today just because I came home and had the chance to play some NES.

I think Metroid has a good balance of difficulty.

I'm working on Ghosts n Goblins right now. It's not really that hard, but people say it is.

Dragon Warrior, from my memory isn't too bad.

I honestly wish I had the time to do this. Main reason I can never get into NES games. I like them, but I can only play them as about a ten minute novelty. Spending 5 hours grinding just to start enjoying the game is like, a quarter of my weekend just gone in one hit, or an entire evening on a worknight. My time is too precious to justify that.

Most NES games are pretty easy. They just give the illusion of difficulty because you have to play through the whole game again if you mess up. All this does is make it take a long time to beat, it doesn't make it more difficult.

>They just give the illusion of difficulty because you have to play through the whole game again if you mess up.

I wish this "artificial difficulty" meme died.
A game doesn't need to have checkpoints every 12 seconds to be considered hard.

Endurance, memorization, pattern recognition, resource management, being very careful so you don't die an hour into the game... those are all skills that can be used to determine something's difficulty.

Also some of the responses in this thread are just retarded. Castlevania 1, Bubble Bobble, Zelda 1, Metroid, and Ghost 'N Goblins aren't particularly easy.

I would agree about Kirby's Adventure, Mario 1-2-3, Chip 'N Dale, Kid Niki 1-2 (maybe 3, haven't played it), Little Mermaid, Power Blade, Felix the Cat, Monster Party.

Some games like River City Ransom and TMNT 2 are just easy if you're playing them in a given way (in RCR you spam your way through the game with Dragon Feet, in TMNT2 you can do the same thing with neutral jump attacks).

That's all fine and dandy, but artificial difficulty is still a factor.
It doesn't matter how skilled you are, you will fail the first time you try the falling pit in quickman stage in megaman or the red planet stage in bucky o'hare.

Another example is the final stage in Ninja Gaiden (USA). If you get a game over on 6-4, you get sent back to the beginning of 6-4. If you die at the boss, you get sent all the way back to 6-1. If that's not the definition of artificial difficulty I don't know what is.

It's like the game is cheating. It suddenly realizes you're about to win and changes the rules in its favor. That's just cheap.

It's to balance out the fact that if you killed one of the end bosses they stay dead. It wouldn't be much of a challenge if you could perma-kill them AND still start at 6-4.
