I love Sega racing games, but I'm so conflicted about F355 Challenge. It has some great tracks, but the game is just so fucking hard. I've played a ton of "simulation" racing games including iRacing and Rally 2000, but I've never gotten this one to click with me. No combination of assists has lead to the driving feeling "right" and I've still never finished higher than fifth. I just don't know what to make of this one, as much as I want to like it.

Is that supposed to be some sort of outrageous joke? Emulators are notorious for device input lag. A mechanical keyboard is about is getting the quickest possible reaction time, sometimes used by professional gamers but they're probably overkill. Emulation of any sort never mind a console like the dreamcast is going to suicide the input lag by comparison.

I remember the announcement that Sega was quitting the console business. I fought through hordes of buyers at a KB Toys to get mine for $50, which included several games. When I was starting to get into the system, games were already hitting the bargain bins.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 - must've clocked in a good 80+ hrs in this...but I was a cheapass, hoarding money with the very first car (RX7 FC with most of the mods) so that I could just leapfrop into the best car...which meant almost all my races were hard as shit and most of the time I needed to get very lucky (e.g., make opponent slam into divider) on top of not making a single mistake. Many bosses were so tough (only because their cars were much, much better) that my only chance would be right at the beginning, if I could get them to rear end me not just once but usually twice. If they got by me and I lost the race, I'd just reboot the DC bc otherwise my record would get ruined. Needless to say I rebooted and replayed many races a lot. Eventually this got too hard and even though I was able to get a viper with almost all the upgrades by the end, lost interest and gave up

I would define the modern era of gaming as:

All encompassing: Modern gaming systems attempt to envelope your hobby in every facet of life
Achievement and social media, always connected: Modern consoles are always connected to the internet, always integrating your gameplay with the rest of your life and posting your achievements
Mobile: A lot of modern gaming is becoming portable or cellular, particularly on phones.

The "modern" era definitely began in the end of the last generation with the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

I don't really see ANY elements of the current "Modern" Era of gaming present in the Sixth Gen, the Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Internet connectivity can't really be the determining factor for "retro" or "modern" because Sega Channel and other internet connection for gaming consoles was around even in the late 80s and 90s.

I'm used to the PC version and wasn't expecting it to be a better experience on DC, but there's some little touches that I think make the DC version better in some ways such as the music, HUD, and presentation. Controls, obviously not, unless you use a DC m+kb. But after an hour or so and playing on the lowest difficulty, I was actually having fun. There's also a VMU minigame that you unlock once you beat the game, but I haven't finished it yet, still on tier 4 I think.

I like playing on my CRT and it doesn't support VGA (at least, I don't think). Plus, if I were to use VGA, I'd have to use it on my HDTV, which I don't want to do.
All in all, anything is better than composite. Sometimes, I like to play older consoles with RF just because it looks really nostalgic, though.

The Xbox was an excellent console overall for its introduction of "native" hard drive storage, built in 100mb Ethernet, rugged 4 player xboxhueg design, and a very well designed controller, but should be most important to Dreamcast and Sega fans for its taking on of many Sega titles that either didn't make it to the Dreamcast or were too large for it.

In the context of the prior conversation, it's implied that "Halo ruined FPS" as a genre. Get real. It's a very tight multiplayer game, even if it's running at a slower pace. The game industry relies on selling goods, and it was the console market that took over at this time.
Twitch arena shooters have their own merits, but don't deny that they were nearly dead to the industry at this time. They just weren't selling the same. The market moved on, and that's not to say these shooters weren't great themselves or aren't still a lot of fun now.
Maybe you should click yourself on over to /v/ if you want to continue at their level of discourse.

>>3127164
Seaman is great. What you have not done is provided evidence of completing the game. It really tests your devotion in this age of instant gratification.

>>3127170
Originally the game was intended to release for Mac and PC. It debuted as a trailer at Macworld in 1999. Later, Bungie was bought out by Microsoft and focused development onto making the game for their Xbox console. Bungie's Wikipedia page has a good summary.

PSO was literally a hackers dream game. You could join a game with 3 people, kill all of them and take the weapon they were using and their money, rob their bank, then corrupt their save.

You could flush the 200 hours they spent on it right down the drain. PSO was probably the greatest MMORPG ever made none the less. I loved the rares.

That project seems close to dead now. It's now five months overdue and they're not even posting excuses any more. They repeatedly played the "big update coming soon" card and when they finally would post an update it'd be the most underwhelming, mundane crap you could imagine.

They started out with a team of five or six, then the most important guy got driven away by the fat bald guy. Last contact made it sound like it was down to just him and that Polish guy who is probably long overdue for deportation. Wouldn't be surprised if the money finally ran out and the rest of the team bailed.

I don't think they ever had the intelligence to run off with the money outright, but at this point if they ever finish the game they probably wouldn't be able to afford the cost of manufacturing it. All the lies about the progress they've made haven't really helped either.

Lesson learned I suppose; don't give your money to a bunch of retards.
