Well it is a bonus minigame, not meant to be super challenging. I can bet they would've been able to squeeze more out of it if they made it a full game.

It probably helps that it's by Psygnosis, who were Amiga devs, therefore they were very familiar with 68000 processors.

If you want to be technical, even Brazil isn't cranking out "real" Mega Drives any longer. Up until the late 2000s, TecToy was still producing legitimate SoAC variants with cartridge slots. About 2009, although they kept the (modified) Mega Drive 2 shell, they dropped the cart slot and the internals became FGPA emulation based, like your run-of-the-mill AtGames unit.

All things considered, though, it's true that Brazil has never been without an officially licensed Mega Drive compatible system readily available since it's launch, meaning it's been consistently abailable for about 25 years. It's insane.

>ActRaiser 2 – This was one of my first – and most important – mistakes in my career. At the time, I was convinced that players wanted action. They wanted to be challenged and pushed to new levels. I pushed Enix away from retaining the sim part of ActRaiser and toward a more challenging action title. I made that decision because I believed I knew what the consumer wanted. The release of that game taught me quite a bit about the need to really listen to consumers. You can’t get caught up in making games for yourself believing that you speak for the consumer. You have to take the time to really hear what people have to say, read all the feedback, read all the comments, truly understand what people seek in their experiences. I removed the soul from ActRaiser and that was a really tough lesson to learn, but it’s one that has really helped me along the way.

>>3115159
Well, when we're talking about such slow clock speeds to begin with, 0.58MHz is quite a big difference.

Also, what with all the different achitectures and instruction sets that old microprocessors had, the clock speeds of two CPUs can't really be compared in any meaningful way. The SNES is clearly a faster system, capable of handling more action on the screen, than the Sega Master System (4MHz, I believe) or the Game Boy (4.19MHz).

Don't get me wrong, it is clear that the Mega Drive's CPU was generally more capable than the SNES, simply by comparing the performance of similar shmups and arcade action games, but the clock speed is basically just a number and doesn't mean a whole lot. The performance of a CPU is less about how many clock cycles it can do per second and more about what it is actually capable of doing in those clock cycles, and how efficiently it can execute the instruction set.
