There is a lot of very real and very vocal hostility towards /v/ and modern games though, and it's been very bad for the board. One bad comment leads to five and within no time the thread is completely derailed.

That, and age posting. One of the most common ways of trying to win any debate has become to call out the other person for being either young or new to the board. Which again is both an empty argument and only leads to elitist hostility. There was a time on /vr/ I never had to say anything about my age, now it's almost a daily occurrence to have someone pull the "you only think that because you're underage" card.

It's gotten to the point now that /vr/ is actually worse for overall shitposting than even /v/. It's craziness.

As far as the ageposting goes I've found that the perception of people who were kids in the 90s are very different than people who were adults in the 90s and even though those kids are like 30 now it still gets them pissed to suggest that their perceptions are based on somewhat childish nostalgia. It really hit me when I actually got into an argument with a poster even older than I am that illustrated my childish perception of the gaming scene in the early to mid 80s.

Ohh yeah don't get me wrong, /v/ has a heck of a lot of shitposting as well. But /vr has come to develop a very us vs them attitude that I find especially off putting. It is 4chan after all, some of that is to be expected. But it makes me sad when I see this place getting increasingly hostile.

With the age thing, a lot of it is the attitude from some of the older posters that they're here to show the "kids" how things are supposed to be done. That's partly my baggage, because I always hatted that attitude from older people and now seeing my peers do it really rubs me the wrong way.

That and I just think "I don't agree so I'll call you 'kiddo' in the hopes being condescending will shut you up," is just a super shitty way to act towards anyone.
