The thing I'm most interested in is what they will improve over the original. Looking at the cyberspace parts and hacking puzzles maybe.

If the only thing they're going for is modernized visuals, I don't see the point. Because System Shock is a perfectly playable and fun game.

... No, it wasn't. It was trying to be action-adventure-RPG in framework of an FPS, with metroidvania progression and voiced dialogue, in 1994 - before FPS genre was even properly formulated. This kind of innovation HAS to include concessions.
Like, they didn't even think to include mouselook for god's sake. It is a very INFLUENTIAL game, yes - every hacking minigame in every game since then is some variation on the concept of connecting lines (with exception of DX:HR). But it's not super good executed - I mean, Enhanced Edition, or really just installing a mouselook mod is enough to make it 80% more playable. So I'm assuming this is going to be entire purpose to make it more accessible in the same way Enhanced Edition does, just more (e.g. I love the fact that they are almost exactly sticking to original aesthetic, down to colors of the rooms).

It's the players who pay the price because they keep having to buy new parts all the time. We should be demanding a better product from people who are already making money from other games, who will use crowdfunding on top of that, and who are working with an established IP. I can understand newbie developers with completely new game concepts using Unity but this situation is different. The cheap hacks making this game are just after a quick and easy buck and they push off what little risk there is in making a very safe remake of an acclaimed game to the consumer.

Here's a thing about remaking games (mind that this is not a "reimagining" like Shadow Warrior), is that devs dont have to actually design anything - all the designs, map layouts, and other important aspects of the game are already there, which saves more than half of the dev time/efforts. Remakes like this are a definition of a quick buck. On the plus side, they may attract attention of people who are not into retro to the original franchises but that's not very likely.

Shoot things with pulser soft, pick up healthkits and boxes, avoid mines, flip switches, hover into info nodes for some vague hints, use drill soft on ICE blocked objects
