Because it's a typical form of shitty request threads that do nothing but shit up the board.
And it goes against the whole concept of a hidden gem if you rely on stuff already unearthed and polished.

Rec threads are not allowed on 4Chan for a reason. If people actually were bothered to read the rules it would spare this board a lot of needless threads. Just because the state of this board is abysmal doesn't mean it should get even worse than it already is.

Protip: the posters rarely even play those games. None of them can even read Japanese.
If you want to push a game do it in other threads so that good lurkers aren't penalized for being polite.
You're not helping the board by contributing to rule-breaking threads before they get deleted.

I like recommending what I think are little played but great games. And I find it fun when a person is looking for something new to play to find what kinds of games they like and recommend some.

I'll happily take that over the weekly Final Fantasy Sucks and Castlevania Fight threads. Which is why I don't click on those anymore and am happier for it.

And here's a sweet tip. You can easily not click on the threads that don't interest you as well.

This, holy shit. I know "moderation" is a dirty word on 4chan, but reporting and deleting shitty threads will ultimately help this community. There's a reason why /wooo/ is light years ahead of /asp/ in terms of discussion. I will say that the mods have been deleting some shitposting lately, which is good, but there's still plenty of obvious bait in the catalog. I still don't know how the /org/ guy keeps getting 100+ replies.

Most "obscure" retro games on the internet are circle jerked beyond belief on either this board or anywhere else on the internet. Kinda begin to swing away from underrated a lot because of that.

But unless people get validation from it being on Gamefaqs or IGN "BEST GAMES EVER MADE", people will still think "Hey man, Live A Live, what a obscure classic!"

The problem with the term "hidden gem" is that it's 2016, and all the hidden gems have been unearthed and made into household names by now. I'm sure kids getting into the retrogaming fad might "discover" games like Sylphia or Rent-a-Hero, but they have been unearthed by oldfags like me who have been into retrogaming since before it was called "retrogaming."

What does that matter though? No way you were the first person on earth to discover how cool Sylphia is. But that doesn't matter, what matters is that you didn't know about it.

That's what a hidden gem is, it's just one of those games that most people look over because it's not super popular and not everyone's cup of tea. But practically every game, even the weird seemingly crappy ones are someone's near perfect cup of tea.

The only thing "hidden" about this game is its complete lack of quality. In that people don't discover how lame it is until they play it.

It's like they published the game with the dev-work being only 30% done.
