Do you guys think people are laundering money by buying games like this?

This just showed up.

This is a generic, unofficial EPROM cart used to copy games back in the old days. While a game developer could have used one to save money, Nintendo themselves sure as fuck weren't using them. I'm sure someone will plunk down a grand for it anyway.

Early forms of region locking those games
I play Super Famicom games on my Snes
and they play just fine you just have to make it
so the cart can get past those little blocks inside
the console.
But also the pins in the NES games are different compared to the Famicom if I'm not mistaken.

The space was actually utilized by some games though. They (likely) purposefully made it big to accommodate them, so they wouldn't have carts that are different sizes (Licensed famicom games actually have different shapes and sizes depending on the company). Games that used the space are mostly games like Gyromite. Nintendo didnt have time to make Gyromite on an NES cart in time for the holiday season, so the famicom board was inside the cartridge, which in turn had a Famicom to NES adapter in it. Call it lazy, but at least the space was (Occasionally) used.

As mentioned the extra size was used for some carts but I'm guessing part of it had to do with the consoles loading design. It was intentionally designed to look similar to a VCR when loading cartridges because of the bad reputation of video games in the US after the crash and the longer length allows you to remove the cart.

It's a new connector and new plastic so that you don't actually push the cart down - it's not Zero Insertion Force. In addition, it has a universal lockout chip like the ones on homebrew/flash carts so you won't run into issues with 'blinking lights'. It's decent, not great, because it's a pain in the ass to remove a game.

A) fuck them, they're can't handle money, and

B) they are only showing the sellers that they can try for a higher price next time and see how many bites they can land, which repeats the cycle.
