I fail to see what your point is. It's a part of FF canon, thus Ashley goes in the poll along with the protagonists from the various FF spin-offs.

And yes, Seiken Densetsu counts as a spin-off because that's exactly how the series started out. "Final Fantasy Gaiden" is even printed on the box.

The only thing that might count as a technicality is FFL3, because it's part of the SaGa series. It was rebranded a Final Fantasy game only for its English release. (Although the GB SaGa games do have many common FF elements)

Doesn't matter. Square has canonized VS whether or not Matsuno likes it. References to the game were even injected into FF12, which takes place in the same universe. There is no room for debate. VS *is* a part of FF canon. This is a simple fact.

Terra's by far the most prominent character in the games story and the one who's featured in all the crossover and promo stuff.

She starts the game, drives the first half of the game, has first priority to talk to Kefka, is one of the four party members you have to have during the games ending and the conclusion of her story is where the game closes.

Celes, Locke and Sabin all have a longer dedicated arc too but they don't have focus throughout the entire game like Terra does.

Did you even play the games? Aside from shit social skills the characters are almost completely different. Squall is a mopey teenager who hides his insecurities by acting as aloof as possible and muttering 'whatever' a lot.

Cloud is a failed soldier in the middle of a psychotic breakdown and thinks he's a completely different person for a large chunk of the game. Partially due to him being fucked in the head and partially due to experimentation done on him. Outside of an initial glance they're really not similar at all.

The caveat to this is that I'm only talking about them in the games FFVII and FFVIII. I have heard Cloud is a little different in the movie and some of their later stuff. I don't know or care about any of that.

Cloud is barely edgy at all after Midgar. The dudes a plucky hero who has a mental breakdown, with his emo edgy shit being a fault of the compilation. He's nothing like Squall, who actually deserves that criticism.

Terra's way more involved with understanding love and being a hybrid than her amnesia. She gets over her memory problems a third into the game and spends half of that third asleep.

Bartz could be changed to a silent protagonist and FF5 wouldn't be much different. I like the game but the only party members worth anything were Faris and Galuf.
