>stupid star thing
It's not stupid; it's a great concept. But yes, you're referring to the note that reads west instead of east. The guide, Horis, tells you the correct directions. So you know right away the game gives you two different directions. Naturally, you try both of them. Still a flaw, I agree. But not so bad overall. And besides, you get the Life Armor going by the note.

>> No.3030087

>>3030079
do they say "west" and "east", or are they refering to different reference systems?

>> No.3030091

>>3030087
Your guide, Horis, says to go east, which leads to the Oasis. The note says to go west, which leads to the Life Armor. Because each direction leads to somewhere/something, it's debated among BoF fans if it's an error or meant to be that way.

>> No.3030103

>>3030091
fair enough, sounds a bit unfortunate. I was asking because in some games the point of the view of the character/party may not match up with cardinal directions as expected, and east is left on the screen, or elsewhere even. If they did use east and west though, there's no space for ambiguity

>> No.3030108

>>3030103
>sounds a bit unfortunate
It is. Even though it's my favorite game, I admit the note probably was a translation flaw. Just saying the desert isn't as bad as some make it out to be. And I really enjoyed it; was one of my favorite parts.

Just curious, what's your favorite game?

>Just curious, what's your favorite game?
Not sure if you mean within the BoF series or in general. Since I have not played any BoF game though, I'll just respond for general.
I don't know if I would call it my favorite, but OutRun is definitely the game I come back to most often. The very quick way into the game (boot, pick a song, you're on the road), and the very brief sessions (below 6 minutes, guaranteed) appeal to me. With a lot of games I "don't bother" firing them up, because I know I need minutes to get into the game, and hours to recover my mental context (where was I in the story? What equipment does my party have or need? What are their abilities? What combos did I use? My reactions are too slow, because I lack practice, etc.), so I end up just not playing them at all, which kind of sucks.
Also helps that OutRun is an entirely positive game. No enemies, no fight, no conflict, nothing. It's just you, your girl, your car, and the road, and I love that.

>> No.3030152

>>3030135
Interesting choice! I never played OutRun. I saw footage of the game during G4TV's top 100 games special, and I thought it looked pretty rad. And yeah, games that are easy to get into are pretty fucking sweet.

Which version of the game, though? It's on the Genesis?

http://tempsend.com/695315236C that's the unpatched rev b, I think. Should run fine if you just put the zip in the roms folder. The patched one would only throw up checksum errors, and the bugs are minor enough, that this is plenty to enjoy the game.

I honestly don't believe you're good enough to clear a single Donkey Kong board, let alone 10+ Pacman boards, or a Galaga loop.

I wouldn't even be surprised if you haven't played all 3.
