Don't use sellotape. It doesn't work.

Solder that shit.

Get batteries with the tabs on them and solder them in.

My Game Boy appears to have a dead screen, solid black (green?) across the screen at startup, but can still hear the sounds of the game starting so I know it's working. Any advice, /vr/?

There is a contrast wheel on the right side of the system, try adjusting it.

I do the grittier method of battery changing. Get a razor blade and saw away at the staples which holds the battery to the contacts. That part of course is a bitch, and you have to be careful not to bend the contacts too much as you do it or else they might snap. Once you're done there, just slide in the new battery and wrap a strip of electrical tape tightly around it all. I've replaced 5 batteries now for both GB and SNES games with this method and they're all still saving just fine.

27, just never had a GB until a few years ago when I bought one and turned it on to see a black screen, then pretty much immediately tossed it into the "fix it later" pile where it remained until today.

I've replaced several save batteries on the game boy an snes. I usually just pry the battery off the tabs with a small flathead screwdriver then tape the new one in with electrical tape. It's never failed for me, but if you can solder id jut solder one in.

Fuck that, stick in a graphene Li-ion battery with induction charger so you can put them over a magnetic field every twenty years for the rest of your entire life.
