Let's try something a little different. Post your favorite weapon featured in a retro game. Can be anything from swords to guns to unconventional / improvised weapons like chainsaws and nail bats.

Pic related. The Ultima Weapon from Final Fantasy VII. The weapon's power diminishes as Cloud's HP decreases, which kind of sucks. The sword made a few cameos on later FF games.

The first thing that came to me was the BFG, but the second and one that's stuck is the Tribes disk launchers. Totally defined the way that game played, and ohh what an amazing game it was.

Claw-type weapons (FF) are pretty underrated. Although they have comparatively low damage, they're usually the fastest and most accurate weapons in the game, and sometimes have higher critical rates than other weapons. When you consider that bulkier weapons like axes have lower accuracy, you're probably going to deal more damage in the long-run by using claws.

Muh nigga

I was debating posting this as well. Recently started a playthrough of King's Field II, although I think the Dark Slayer is supposed to be the more powerful weapon in that game.

Didn't the sword make a cameo appearance in the Souls games, by the way?

It's from the International version of FF7. There's a bonus fourth disc that serves as a reference to various items and treasure locations, and has FMVs with summon / limit break exhibitions.

Fuck yer sissy swords'n guns.
Like any true, upstanding /vr/ trooper, a chainsaw is all you need.

Woke up in a martian base infested by zombies and hellspawns?
Just take a few steps back and find your next best friend!

After a long and perilous journey through various worlds you find out God is actually a huge dick?
Cleave the fucker instantly with one of those!

Are you a charming nobleman with a passion for engineering, moving castles and mad clowns?
'Tis just what ye need m'lord!

Feeling like doing something with your arm after losing your hand to infernal abominations?
Just slap one of these buzzing fellows onto it and go medieval on their sorry bony asses.

The Moonlight sword is a staple in a lot of FROMsoft games.

It appears as the best laser sword in Armored Core, in Demon's Souls as a faith weapon, in Dark Souls 1 and 2 as int weapons, Bloodborne DLC as an arcane weapon and will no doubt make an appearance in Dark Souls 3.

I don't actually know if its present in games like Otogi or Metal Wolf Chaos as I haven't gotten that far in them.

I like really powerful weapons with really bad drawbacks.

Legend of Dragon had this extremely powerful sword for the hero rather early for a last weapon, the Soul Eater. The catch was that either you lost HP every turn as if you were poisoned or you equipped an accessory that regens the same amount of health to nullify it, wasting an equipment slot.

It appears as a secret weapon on both Otogis.
On 1 for breaking down all stages, and on 2 for completting all pseudo-minigames.
