My cut-off isn't strict, but here are a few ideas:

1. Gamestop doesn't sell it in-store.

2. Released more than (10, 15, 18, 20, 25+) years ago.

3. A current 8-year old will look at it as unplayable garbage.

I consider GBA sort of retro, because feels mostly like a SNES with even lower resolution.

PS2 fits a few of the above criteria and the kids aren't playing it anymore, but I wouldn't really use the term "retro". We need a new term for "sort of old" systems.
