I'm thinking about picking up a Saturn but I was a PS1 kid. I only had 1 neighbor with a Saturn and I remember it being pretty impressive.

Anyways, I know next to nothing about the console itself. I plan on playing on an HD TV, if I don't mind how my PS1 games look on my TV, will I find Saturn games to look terrible? Especially worried about the 2D games looking bad because the Saturn seems to have a lot of good 2D games.

Second, I plan on getting some Japanese imports because there was only a handful of games that came Stateside. Is the Saturn region-free?

Third, what's the difference between model 1 and model 2?

Thanks, guys.

No, you'll need a 4-in1 Action Replay. It fits into the cartridge slot in the back. It'll bypass region lock, give you cheats, act as a RAM expansion for games like X-Men vs Street Fighter and give you a lot more room for save data

>what's the difference between model 1 and model 2?

Pretty much just cosmetic.

Enjoy the Saturn bro. It's got a great (albeit expensive) library!

If you don't mind the way PS1 looks on your TV then Saturn won't bother you either. I couldn't stand it without an upscaler personally, but you're not me.

Saturn isn't region free but apparently quite easy to mod to play imports. I'm sure someone will post links soon. That's the better way to go anyways since the consoles are fairly cheap, but you'll be paying an arm and a leg for any game that's not shit.

Gongrats, you're in for a treat. Saturn has a ton of awesome games. What genres do you enjoy? We can point you towards some stuff.

Thanks, I'll be sure to get the Action Replay. Any good site for cheats as well?

I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos, most of the games look pretty fun. I'm mostly a fan of platformers but I also like a good arcade style game (like arcade racers, fighters, and shooters).

I'm not too excited about the prices, but I guess that's what makes collecting so exciting.

There's only really a handful of platformers off the top of my head (Keio Flying Squadron 2, Astal, Tryrush Deppy, and Clockwork Knight 1 & 2 are all good), but if you like fighters and shooters, oh my goodness you're spoilt for choice.

That's why I've decided to get one. Oh, and RPG's. I guess the best Saturn RPG's are Japan only though, which means I couldn't read the text.

If I were him I wouldn't waste money on Saturn fighters unless he has friends to play with. It's got a ton of good shooters though.

Also Guardian Heroes is a must play and if he's into platformers Astal is great.

Yeah, I've got friends who come over a lot. I live with my girlfriend too and I can usually rope her into whatever game I'm playing.

You're golden then. Guardian Heroes especially is a good time on your own, but amazing with friends.

Earthworm Jim 2 (worse graphics than the SNES but absolutely kickass CD music)
Silhouette Mirage
Super Tempo
Skeleton Warriors
Metal Slug kind of counts

Sonic Jam (Megadrive ports)
Quackshot & Castle of Illusion (Megadrive ports)

And Castlevania, of course.

Don't use composite.

>> No.2872050

don't forget the 3d platformers like croc, bug, and bug too!

also if you like mario kart/ctr try out Sonic R even though it only has 5 tracks. learning the ins and outs and not cheating to do it is quite a challenge.

Are you just referring to western releases, or are Japanese Saturn games expensive as well? I was considering getting one but if it has an expensive library then perhaps not.

some Japanese games are mega expensive (Radiant Silvergun, Hyper Duel, Super Tempo etc.) but you can get a lot of them fairly cheap.

Virtua Fighter 2, SEGA Rally, Fighters Megamix, NiGHTS, Daytona, Darius Gaiden and Layer Section are possibly the best games on the console and they're al fairly cheap.

Fuck off the prices are already high enough and I don't need some gay ass Sonycuck like you making it worse.

I know, I try to stick with component for my classic consoles.
