Hello /vr/, i'm doing a poll on how /vr/ prefers retro games. Please keep the arguing and autism to a minimum, i'm not trying to start shit, i'm just genuinely interested.

Keep in mind this poll is for console games only, not retro pc games.

why no multiple-choice?
I use both real console on CRT, emulation on CRT and real console on LCD (well, actually plasma) through scaler. Also occasionally emulator through scaler to LCD (hacked Wii).

If you don't play on the real thing you don't belong in this community, simple as that.

>> No.2859348

emulation on CRT, if only because PAL sucks and I'm too pussy to mod consoles

>emulation
you know that's barely a step above playing on an hdtv

>people play retro games on anything other than a CRT

what the fuck

I'd say real hardware on an LCD is still better than emulating.

that's like saying ass cancer is better than dick cancer. who gives a fuck just buy a fucking crt

>> No.2859362

I always hated CRT scanlines, but despite that, real consoles on CRTs are still best for overall picture quality and latency.

There's something to be said for how nice low-res games look on small handheld displays, which basically means emulation, aside from actual handheld systems.

>> No.2859370

I can't believe there are people RIGHT HERE on this VERY FUCKING WEBSITE that think flashcarts are a good enough substitute for real cartridges. It drives me nuts sometimes.

Me and my wife have bought one of those, it helped save a terrific amount of space in our small apartment.

>> No.2859376

Multichoice would've been nice.

I usually play real console on a LED, emulation on my notebook or I emulate it on my PSP.

It's not a secret club, I'm happy with whoever just enjoys retro gaming and values it for what it is, regardless of how they play.

Does it really bother you?
Man your priorities are fucked up.

I dont agree with that. Also there are so many loop holes. What if you play NES games on a PS1 ?

I'm fine with people riffing on noobs about emulation not being the real thing but emulation is still alright. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone who emulates would not have owned, or desire to own, and original console or have or had a set up at one point.

If a dude who is obsessed with BSNES comes across an SNES and a CRT for $20 it's likely they'd get it.

First off, you should really use Higan, BSNES was discontinued.

>> No.2859404

not be all reddit or anything but this. If it weren't for emulation nerds and rom hackers I'm sure we wouldn't be where we are with all the new enhancements (rgb modding, everdrives, fan translations, etc).

>> No.2859417

>>2859401
No, he shouldn't. Higan is a hideous abomination and the only reason why people are using it is the non-altered bSNES core anyway. The rest are emulators in their very early development stage (and byuu apparently has no desire to change that) and design decisions which can be called bold if we want to be polite.

>> No.2859467

>>2859329
You should distinguish between high and low persistence LCDs (strobed backlight or BFI). If it flickers like a CRT then it has good motion like a CRT.

still beats playing slowed-down games with less resolution. After discovering emulation, I couldn't go back to my old consoles. And to think we had to wait for the
Dreamcast to enjoy games in its full glory... europeans got fucked in the ass for decades.
