What are /vr/'s favorite puzzle games? Recently I've been playing Emeraldia by Namco. In addition to the standard unlimited mode, there's an Adventure mode, where you have to clear a path to drop fish off the bottom of the screen. It's a very fun game overall, and making large chains of blocks is very satisfying. What puzzle games do you like?

There are way too many action puzzle games that involving matching or forming lines. I prefer those that at least try to break away from those overused mechanics.

Landmaker is another good Taito game that has a pretty unique concept.

There an arcade game that I really enjoy that's called, I think, Taisen Puzzle Dama. Maybe there were more versions made for consoles; it's really fun with a second player!

There were several versions of that game, including one based on TwinBee on Playstation.

I was playing Magical Drop III the other week. I also played it a bit online over Fightcade with a friend.

Puyopuyo is fun but ultimately it just makes me want to go play Madou Monogatari instead.

Panel de Pon aka Tetris Attack

>> No.2843170

Money Puzzle Exchanger is surprisingly good and has an arcade-perfect Saturn port. One version is like Magical Drop and the other is traditional falling-block style.

If absolute insanity is your cup of tea then Tube-It aka Cachat is great. It's like a falling-block version of Pipe Dream. Not sure it ever saw a release outside arcades.

Similar to Cachat in concept is Sparkz, an unreleased prototype from Atari.

Panel de Pon is one of my favorite games of all time.
It's a shame the series turned to shit and died off after the Gamecube one.

What did they end up changing? I've only played some of the older versions and the GBC Pokemon one which is strangely one of my favorites despite not being a big Pokefan.

In general I find the earlier versions of puzzlers are better. They seem to want to find ways of improving the original when they do re-releases and is almost always makes it worse. Block holding being an official Tetris feature is a perfect example.

The only puzzler I can think of that got significantly better in later versions was Puzzle Fighter.

The gamecube version is superior for 4 player play. Not much else though thanks to it's odd character design.
The next thing we got was planet puzzle league for the ds and that's all we've seen of panel de pon since.
Really wish we'd get another release with online play but america hates faeries.

The Gameboy Advance and DS games are both really low budget and minimum effort.
They play a lot slower and don't have anything in the way of a story mode or characters like the previous ones.
