Looks like he finally got out of his ban.

It's an incredible game, but it's fairly hard and requires you to get skilled with it's unique control scheme in order to make it though the challenges. It's also not an action game, it's focus is exploration and puzzles, so anyone going to play it needs to be aware of that.

In general I would say it's an excellent game for people who like exploring under stress and a something that's going to challenge them from almost the beginning to the end.

I would say it's a bad game for people wanting some straight up action or who do too many drugs that learning a new control scheme and having to maintain patience under pressure. For people like that it would be a terrible and impossibly hard game. They would likely try it and become so angry at how bad they are that they would never get over it.

Don't be one of them. Don't do drugs and play Ecco. Especially if you suck at it.

No one is saying your opinion is invalid. No one is really telling you that you should like the game. It's that the reasons you give far saying it's bad are either arbitrary such as it wasn't an action game or simply incorrect like when you say the games have bad controls.

As pointed out, although the learning curve is very steep because there's nothing else like it and the game throws you into the deep end pretty quickly it takes some practice to master. But once you do take the time to get used to him you will see >>2817975 his control is actually very smooth and precise. And that's
evidenced by the fact that the game gets really hard in the later stages and if the controls weren't as tight as they are doing things like the Asterite battle and final level wouldn't be possible.

No one ever told you that you had to like the game, if it's not for you then great go play something else you like. But if you make a bunch of what are essentially troll posts about how bad it is and cite ridiculous and nonsensical reasons then people are going to correct you and probably make some fun in the process.

That's pretty understandable. If you played it when you were quite young like 12 and under or so, you probably would have just had fun splashing around in the water catching fish and stuff.

Whereas the main game is quite challenging and requires a lot of patience under pressure and enjoying exploring. It's certainly not a game for everyone.

>>2827501
It still feels like you think there's only you and one other guy here. I'm the one that bugs you about that stuff and it's purely because you're an idiot that tried to play the game stoned and didn't like it and then have literally spent weeks complaining about it. Yet when asked what you actually thought was bad about it, your reasons are increasingly hilarious.

I wasn't asking for an opinion. I was asking for criticism.

"This game is hard" is not criticism. You just suck. This "trolling" angle is irrelevant as we're here to have a discussion, not mindlessly fling unsubstantiated opinions about.

IPs transitioning from 2D to 3D are hardly worthwhile. I can't say I've personally played it but that's for a reason; the space for you to explore in the original games is multiplied tenfold while retaining the original amount of puzzle elements, and as a result it become much longer and way more tedious. That's sort of the nature of 2D to 3D. Controls aren't nearly as tight from what I can tell either. Pa~ass.

Like, I get why, but why would the programmers bother? I always thought the price of cartridge games lent itself to the replayability factor; if you're not progressing, play better.

Either way, I can agree that having checkpoints is needless aside from the later levels, but by then you should have gotten used to the difficult nature of the game.

This casualised bullshit is why we had/have "easy" mode. Pushover assholes unwilling to challenge themselves.

Not him, but please stop talking out your ass over things you haven't even experienced. The Dreamcast game is quite different from the Genesis ones, but I wouldn't call it tedious at all. I also don't like it quite as much, but if you liked the 2D Ecco games you'll still probably really enjoy it. So I'd recommend at least trying someday.

I don't see that that's such a bad thing. The Ecco games are fairly hard, if you're good at the game you can just ignore the checkpoints are there. But if it helps a less skilled or younger player get through it then I think that's a good thing.

Lol, I almost exclusively play retro games (including ecco, one of my favorites) while high on marijuana. Ecco is especially fun in this way, it's such a great combination of comfy and stress.

Then again, I've been a hardcore gamer my entire life and I smoke weed almost every day after work, so maybe I'm a special snowflake for being able to learn and play Ecco well while under the influence. Pretty sure I've never played Ecco sober though, lol.

I'll admit, however, that I prefer the Sega CD version for the checkpoints. If I'm not mistaken, the other versions don't let you respawn at the crystal gates, right?

I know you are, and I think it's silly. You think if you die you should replay the level from the start. Which is fair, that's how I like to play as well. But you're saying that although playing through it again is fine, having to enter that level code is too much of a chore. It's a silly complaint, and I think if the checkpoints made the game more playable for some people then it's fine they're there.

At any rate if entering the password is really too much bother, the debug code works in all versions so you can just quickly do that and warp to the start.
