Yay, another one of these. I might play it later. I watched something for beginners and it said that going into crypts are a great way to get started since they're small, and to always have a teleport spell since the dungeons are far more complicated than later elder scroll games. I-is this right?

Compared to the other elder scroll games the dungeons in Daggerfall are mostly labyrinthine, crypts are alright imo and as for the recall spell its really useful if you want to get out of any dungeon if you finished the objective however its not really required it is however highly recommended for beginners. Aslo you can make note on the map, watch the webm.

Is there a way to change this quest in Daggerfall? This quest start out with a merchant telling the player that his daughter gotten kidnap by orcs. It's a nice dungeon quest but later on, if you started repping for the Fighter Guilds, this quest quickly turns into "this merchant is an abusive father and we are looking after his daughter." Is there a way to edit it so the Fighter Guilds part didn't happen and only the orc-kidnapping-the-kid part does?

>> No.2808652

>>2808624
It's 50/50 to take either path even if you don't have rep with the Fighters Guild. You just won't get the letter if they don't like you, leading you to crawl around in the dungeon with no goal to find unless you had the foresight to ask around before going.

It's best to just think of it as two quests. You're still just as likely to get the orc-kidnapped version even with 10+ FG reputation.

That means you finally got out. Now you can start the game proper. You can keep going directly south to end up in the town of Gothway Garden after not too long a walk, or open up the fast travel map now and make your way to Daggerfall or wherever else you want. It's a good idea to have a save here stored somewhere so you can go back to it if you accidentally miss the first part of the main quest or something else you find undesirable.

You might find it easier to go back into Privateer's Hold or a small graveyard for easy combat experience and treasure compared to most quest dungeons, but you'll probably be fine no matter what you do.

>> No.2815167

>>2815138
Not at all if you're not roleplaying or something. You miss out on the experience and potential loot for killing the thing, you might accidentally attack it without realizing you passed the check, and if you want to have a lot of things be unagressive you have to take up a bunch of major/minor skill slots.

2815573

>>2815138
They're definitely not worth the points from a practical gameplay perspective. If you want one just to try it for fun, Daedric is the best bet. It's the only language skill other than Orcish that is spoken by more than one enemy, and it's the only language skill at all that applies to any dangerous enemies. You'll know a language skill worked when an enemy remains stationary without attacking you, but still rotates to face you. If they aren't facing you then they simply haven't detected you yet so beware.

Also keep in mind that you can't actively "use" your language skills. It's fully passive - it either worked or it didn't as soon as the creature saw you and you won't get another try. If something is already hostile to you, the only way to get out of that situation is by fighting, fleeing, or pacifying through magic. At the maximum unfortified stats, slightly over half of the speakers of the language will be passive to you if you take care to walk around without your weapon drawn.

What follows is purely anecdotal and I haven't found any documentation about it anywhere, but I have experienced undead enemies (Skeletons, Vampires, etc.) occasionally being non-hostile to my character in the same way any language-speaking enemy would. My character happened to be a vampire as well when I started noticing it, and this happened in several regions - not just ones where my character's particular vampire clan presided. I have no idea if being a vampire was the reason for this occurrence or if it's something that can happen to any character, but I have yet to witness it with non-vampire characters.

>> No.2815628

>>2815573
I've had a bat passive to me like that once, and a rat one other time. I thought it was a bug but now I suspect that it's a very small chance for anything even if they aren't human or have a language. Maybe vampires get a bonus to that chance for the undead, or the personality boost from vampirism simply made them friendly often enough for you to notice.

Don't remember that specific dungeon but that's in a lot of them, most of the time there's a hidden door in a random nonsensical place, I would try around for one of those. Even though they're procedurally generated I'm fairly certain they're all pregenerated and tested, so it's possible it's a bug, but more than likely it's just a dumb hidden door.

You're supposed to crouch-jump through it. But due to the terrible collision detection and geometry this will result in you clipping through the walls, falling through the floor, or walking on the ceiling 60% of the time. Just save and keep practicing and you'll get it. Webm related, good luck.

>>2816567
>Even though they're procedurally generated I'm fairly certain they're all pregenerated and tested
This is half true. They were pregenerated in the sense that they already exist in everyone's game world whether you visit them or not, but they were definitely not all tested - there's over 4,000 dungeons in total after all. However, they were generated by placing sections of dungeons that each fit into a large cube next to each other with doors that are always in the same locations, and each of those individual blocks that dungeons are constructed from were tested and designed by hand. So there's no layouts where sections of the dungeons are totally inaccessible (except a few rooms floating at the edges of most dungeons where quest objects cannot spawn due to the way border blocks work). But there are a few blocks where you must jump through that sort of window to cross unless there happens to be a way around by traveling through adjacent blocks, and there's an abundance of hidden doors, switches that look identical to every other clutter sprite, traps, and teleporters to disorient you. It doesn't help that there are still a couple random quests that can fail to actually place their objective in a dungeon under certain conditions and quest paths. Or my favorite bug: on very rare occasions, generated quest NPCs in dungeons or houses can be literally invisible. They're still there and you can interact with them normally. You just can't see their sprites.

There's no shame in using the ] and [ cheats to cycle through all possible quest locations if you want to really be sure you're not on a fool's errand. Just use it as a last resort if you're stuck.

Yeah. Mehra's family belonged to the Lamasery of Horns (an illegal Boethiah cult in the Valus Mountains (a mountain range on the border of Cyrodiil and Morrowind) which combines Dunmer and Nibenese philosophy) before being driven into hiding. She's a devout worshiper of Boethiah, and of the Daedra in general, so she has Daedric as a major skill despite language skills being nearly useless.

She's a devout worshiper of the Daedra (and Boethiah specifically), and is not particularly fond of the Nine Divines because they generally oppose the Daedra (though she's not necessarily hostile to the Aedra themselves, due to the Nibenese elements of the Lamasery). She's also shifty af and frequently backstabs and betrays people whenever given the chance, just like Boethiah would want.

I see the Emperor entrusting her with the mission in the Iliac Bay having been a matter of her being arrested and sentenced to execution for treason, but, in repayment of a (accidental) life-saving past favor to the Emperor, having been promised amnesty -- or at least a postponing of execution -- in exchange for carrying out an extremely dangerous mission in which she is expected to die.

Enchanted items use up the durability of the item itself. So a weapon with an on-use enchantment would lose durability both for hitting with it and for actually using the enchant. By default, enchanted items CANNOT be repaired under any circumstances. Prior to patch 1.04 it was possible to repair them by using the "repairs objects" enchantment. In a later patch they introduced the "MAGICREPAIR" variable to the Z.CFG file which you can use to re-enable this feature. Personally I leave it disabled since magic items are pretty OP to begin with and it fits the lore with all the Daedric artifacts that are supposed to leave their owner after a time, but if you're tired of the magic items you worked so hard for breaking after a couple hours, just open up Z.CFG and add the line:
MAGICREPAIR 1

Alternatively, if the MAGICREPAIR line already existed and was set to 0, just switch it to 1. If it already existed and was set to 1, then you don't need to do anything.

Shields work like standard armor.

Also "PER" is Personality. Best to save that enchantment for when you're buying or selling things so you can get the most out of it - a higher Personality will adjust the prices in your favor.
