2801735 No.2801735 [Reply] [Original]

There is always the question which version is the best, understandably. I've seen plenty discussion about Final Fantasy games and Street Fighter. Ofcourse who could forget SNES vs Genesis or Atari vs Amiga.
I just thought we could contain these questions in a general thread, instead of making a new one each time.
Personally, I'm wondering which version of the big three cinematic platformers are the best: Prince of Persia, Flashback and Another World. Many ports, many version, but which is the best.

>> No.2801752

This boils down to personal preference whether you autists want to admit it or not.

>> No.2801801 [DELETED]

Daily reminder that FF1 sucks - no matter the version - and that saying "it's a classic" doesn't mean shit. You are a shit person misleading people if you recommend this trash.

>Play Final Fantasy on the NES
>"Oh, this sucks"
>Read about the remakes
>Play the FF1 remake on GBA
>"Oh this still sucks"
>People say to try the PSP remake
>Try it
>"Oh this is the exact same fucking trash as the GBA version."

/v/ has the worst taste imaginable if they think the PSP version is some marked improvement over the GBA/NES versions. Recommending a bad Final Fantasy game is retarded, especially when there are quality SNES JRPGs that one could be playing like Bahamut Lagoon or Glory of Heracles 3. There are just so many good JRPGs somebody could be playing instead of playing a bad one like FF1.

But you know what's stupid about people that defend Final Fantasy 1? They're also the same kind of people that would shit on Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for its insultingly simplistic design and plot.

Not particularly
Some releases are objectively better than other releases, like if we compared Sonic releases obviously something like the GBA and mobile releases would be garbage while the 3DS release would be one of the best releases

Why would you play the GB/C versions of PoP at this point? It's not even got for portability since every phone can run a SNES emulator or something of that caliber.

The SNES version is also my prefered choice for the game. The developers who made the port previously made the NEC version, so the SNES version didn't have to be their first try and it shows. Game is fucking good.

For FF, Im playing everything on GBA (III too, on PocketNES)

I love the uniform interface and little updates. Being able yo play on my tv at home with the GB Player and on the go on my GB Micro more than makes up for the smaller resolution.

Not really, I mean some are just preference like the first post said. But some games have objectively better versions.
Not exactly the best example, but Dino Crisis on the Dreamcast has extra content, high quality audio, and smoother video/graphics, plus the VMU shows your health (debatable as to if this is a plus or not).

PS1 > GBA >>>>> NES

I never played any other versions. I give the slight edge to the PS1 for using charges, but it doesn't make or break the experience for me. The NES version has fundamentally broken features.

Luckily, there are patches that change the palette and music as well as some of the more nonsensical text changes back to the originals, if you want to experience the extra content. Like in VI, the enemy "Koko" was changed to "Coco" for the GBA release. What?

1 - PS1 FF origins
2 and 3.....not sure, these are the least played two games of the series.
IV - PSP the complete collection
V - SNES
VI -SNES
VII, VIII,and IX - PS1

Unless you have something to add about 2 and 3.....game over. also 10+ are not even genuine FF games, just saying

2: PSP
3: NES
4: PSP
5: mobile
6: Ted Woosley Uncensored/Final Fantasy VI Unlocalized, arguably we never got a definitive.
7: PS1 with Spirit Bug fix.
8: PS1
9: There's only one version.
Tactics: PS1 or PSP/iShit with Slowdown fix. Don't even touch Android.

Namingway really is the best way to play the original. It beats out both PS1 and JP translation now by a wide margin.

As for the additional stuff not in the original game, they're all completely optional and you need to actually use/press things to see it in action.

This mentions FF Restored which is pretty much the best way to play FFI. FFII isn't broken so much as hilariously under-documented as far as the combat/leveling system is concerned. If you're going with the NES version it's best to read up on it before you play so you don't fuck yourself with your equips and feel forced to rely on the action-cancel bug. III NES is okay, I just haven't really invested in it. Namingway IV is probably best, however I missed it when I picked up a FFIV patch awhile ago and ended up with the J2E version. It isn't as bad as people say. I actually just finished it half an hour ago. The translation is perfectly serviceable, but you might feel some awkwardness whenever Edge or other 'cocky' characters speak. I just don't think J2E really knew what kind of voice to give them. I'm about to start RPGe's FFV and am still debating on what VI patch to use. I have a heavily bugfixed Woosely-translation version (which is fine for me, it's what I've always played) But I'm debating the Woosely uncensored or another relocaization version some anon suggested in a previous thread.

Woolsey Uncensored I think if you're a fan of Woolsey's original translation. The bugfix version of that probably has what you want fixed as well. I liked FF Restored but I hated the font. I think the guy who did Woolsey Uncensored also restored the NES font as well.

Generally any variant of Genesis/MD as it's technically the development platform. EWJ1 has an extra level. I guess the Sega CD version of 1 would count as well, if you prefer Redbook to chiptune.
