No lag.
Built around original hardware.
Cheat support.
Multiple video options.

Here's some copy pasta

http://www.retrousb.com/ - The new AVS Console was the biggest surprise on the show floor at PRGE 2015. This amazing new console plays 8-Bit NES and Famicom games in full 720p HD! It has four built in controller ports and two cartridge slots, one for NES and the other for Famicom games. This device is NOT a clone system, it's built around original hardware. It also does not use emulators. This is the most authentic way to play classic 8-Bit Nintendo games on your modern television. Best of all, it's going to sell for under $200!

In this demo we play take a look at the hardware and play a quick game of CaslteVania 3.

PLEASE NOTE: We could not use the original audio of this video because of copyright protected music being played in the arena. We hope to have a new demo video in the near future.

If you have two consoles, one with a garbage, trash case that is cracked in five or six places, missing parts of it, and one that looks good cosmetically and just needs to have it's pin connector cleaned- where the fuck are you going to use the (cosmetically) broken one to fix the second one?

I work at a retro game store, the problem we are currently suffering is finding systems that are in good cosmetic shape, we have bins, /bins/ of "broken" nes system that just have horribly busted up shells.

95, of not more times out of 100 all that's broken with an NES is that the pin connector is dirty, and probably needs to be re-bent into position. The security chip isn't busted, there's no blown caps, it's just the connection between the board and the cart is shit. There are millions of NES systems out there, the number that they're going to use is going to make as much of a dent as if 20 of us all went and pissed into the Atlantic Ocean.

What you should be more angry about is idiots going out and buying these cheap shitty replacement pin connectors and tossing their original ones

Meh, misspeaking isn't misunderstanding. I get that the lower quality signal coming out of the older console is being upscaled to the newer hardware. I referred to it as "technical jargon" b/c it is. I've never had to use the word upscaler since I hooked it all up and likely won't again any time soon after this conversation. I recently plugged an obd2 sensor into my car and learned I had code P0301 meaning a misfire. I changed the spark plugs, wires, ignition coils, and it works. A few months from now I'm not going to remember the code. I'm going to tell you I changed the plugs and stuff. I've built my own little emulator project board on linux using retroarch with an emulation station front end. I can't tell you off the top of my head what the 40 various emulators are that are on it. Shopping is like work in the sense both are boring as shit. I get these tasks over with as quickly as possible and get back to playing my games.

no it's not, it's 100% new parts, they're not sacking original hardware to build this

I played it this weekend. It looks great, doesn't lag, and has tons of customization options (adjusting exp. audio volume, changing the aspect ratio on the fly, in increments rather than static settings, scanline adjustment, built in game genie, etc.). you can even expand the capabilities of the CPU to reduce flicker and slowdown (although this cannot be toggled on the fly, you have to restart the game, and it obviously makes it not accurate to the real hardware)

FPGA isn't emulation or SOAC, it's basically mimicking the behavior of the original Ricoh 2A03 used in the Famicom/NES.

>>2747360
see above, it's all new parts, they are NOT sacking consoles (they explained this to me at the booth)

again, they are not using the original CPU or PPU, they are replicating the behavior using FPGA.

SOAC != FPGA, the most obvious difference is that FPGA can be reprogrammed, which is helpful when you discover glitches etc.

SOAC are typically ASIC which is cutomized to (impefectly) mimic NES hardware based on information discovered in the 80s and early 90s. meanwhile, the code being used to mimic the 2A03 on the FPGA is based on our current understanding of it, which is vastly improved over the Asian hacks from 30 years ago, AND it can be updated whenever someone finds something fucked up. ASICs are fixed integrated circuits, and they just stay that way forever.

All of this other shit like the Retron is just a fucking software emulator which can't hold a candle to FPGA.

It's a kit that attaches between the PCB and CPU and PPU and intercepts stuff there and then uses and FPGA to produce both picture and sound digitally (it even emulates expansion chip audio for the games that has that). It will even work for many clone consoles! which is just what the Analogue NT happens to be.

This kit will later become available to the general public (but I believe kevtris and Analogue have struck some deal making the kits available to them a bit earlier), so you could have an HDMI-NES without handing all your autism bux to Analogue, just saying.

typically when one refers to a NES "clone", they mean SOAC (ASIC). this is not SOAC (ASIC) based, thus "not a clone" according to the official description (I never said it _wasn't_ a clone, for what it is worth)

again, we're splitting hairs with the "not a clone" business and the "not emulation" business.

the important takeaway here is that this is built around an FPGA, not a SOAC (ASIC) and NOT using original CPU & PPU.

But why?
There is usually 2 different options:
1. I want filters and muh HD. So you use emulator that supports filter.
2. I want everything authentic. So you buy original console and original games.
So, what's the point of this thing? It's an overpriced emulator (yes, hardware emulator is still an emulator) that doesn't have additional features emulator usually have (like ability to pirate games, use custom controllers, run romhacks etc.). But it also can't produce the authentic (analogue) signal to use it with CRT.

Its sort of like option 2B.

People who want everything authentic, but also want reliability and better video quality (but not the filters).

- Pre-modded NES are being sold for $300+.
- Most people, including myself are not self-modders, and would rather not risk ruining their own system just to save a few bucks.
- It isnt like the Retron 5 where the "android emulator front end" is forced on you, so you can use your flashcart. (Retro-USB sells their own flashcart so more likely than not they would make sure flashcarts work on this)
- HDMI to Component adapters are like ~$50 bucks, so you could still play this on a CRT though Component.

TL:DR, Its the closest thing to a cheap pre-modded NESRGB. Also maybe it will help bring the prices of pre-modded NESRGBs into the "not ridiculous" price range.

You clearly do have mental issues. You're that autistic fucktard that posts the Raspberry Pi threads that everyone hates. We can tell by your posting style and obvious autistic tantrums.

The fact that you still visit this board is hilarious, especially after the events of this thread.

My ass is a little chapped today but I think that's from the single ply sand paper. I've got two absolutely useless people in my department. How hard would it be to fire one of them and get us the nice stuff? We do their work anyways as it is.

Unless you're a robot you won't perceive the difference between quality emulation. People obsess about stats they can't physically observe. Don't get me wrong. Some emulation sucks ass. You're paying for hardware emulation when your computer and plenty of other shit will likely give you the same experience unless you're some filthy pleb on a crap system.

It was easy to miss unless you were looking super hard, so I'm not surprised. The signage was very small. They should have invested in a large banner or something.

Can't. If it was popular, Nintendo would shut it down. They still sell those games on virtual stores and do crack down on some rom sites.

It's why Hyperkin prevents it on Retron even though the thing is an emulation machine. They'd be closed up by now otherwise.

Kevtris is supposedly working on his own FPGA system. It's too bad these folks beat him to the punch. RetroUSB AVS will be on the market for a long while before Kevtris even gets his stuff made.

>There is no reason it shouldn't be able to.

Except for the whole getting sued by Nintendo thing. If you want to play roms get a NES flash cart.

>> No.2758383

The kit for the hi-def nes is still going to run like 100-150$. adding on the cost of a console, esp if you go for a top loader, and you're at the price of the AVS, and you don't need a famicom adapter for the AVS.

I'll be getting rid of my top loader for an AVS, but i'm not sure if i want to get one of the HD kits and put in it so i can jack the price up to way too much.

Parent worded it retarded, but it's true.

Shared buffers, emulates chip cycle alignment, OS driver negotiation, frame bufferz, these are real sources of lag on emulators. You always get a few frames of lag on emulators over original hardware, and more so if you use special stuff like wireless controllers.

I'm pro emulator for many reason, but no emulator is free to new lag.

>> No.2758410

>>2758378
that mod IS the word of kevtris.

his FPGA console is different, but he, i believe, was originally in talks with the RetroVGS guys to use his FPGA stuff in their console so it could more than just "new retro-style games!"

What kevtris needs to do at this point, is make an FPGA console that will do what the AVS does, but with Genesis and SNES games.

>> No.2758415

>>2758386

then that's another 50$ on top of the price. When you look at a toploader nes, the kit + install price. you're getting awfully close the cost of the Analogue NT. So a 200$ box that does everything and more that the modded toploader can do is going to be a lot more appealing to people just passing by.
