IGN named Super Mario Bros. 3 the greatest video game of all time.

Is that fair at all? I wouldn't even consider it the greatest Mario game - World trumps it in just about every way.

Eh, I personally don't care about sites like IGN making tops, but I'm cool with it, SMB3 is legit amazing (although I do like World a bit better)

I'm aware. I was there when it happened. That doesn't change the fact that SMW is just SMB3 but dumbed down for casuals who can't deal with hard games. Even the optional levels are easy compared to the airships in SMB3 World 8.

People being young doesn't mean that they're unskilled at video games. In fact, kids who spend all day playing vidya are likely much better than adults that don't have a lot of time to play.
That said, Mario games is a game series for everyone. A "kids only" game would be something like "Mickey's ABC" or some other edutainment.

SMW isn't "just SMB3 but easier", they changed and added a lot of things, namely the controls and physics. One of the reasons World is "easier" is because you can maneuver Mario a lot better than on past Mario games.
To this day, World is the only Mario game that lets you grab and throw shells upwards.

You could make some sort of subjective 'my favorite games' list. But even that would fluctuate wildly based on your age / what genre you're into at the moment.

It just seems like a waste of time and energy to argue about it.
Especially since Mario World is 100 times better than Mario 3.

Obviously it's subjective but smw took 3 and built onto it, sure smw is amazing but it's also derivative. It's about its impact on gaming and what it introduced to gameplay mechanics and the series as a whole.
