Post 1999 games only count if they're a late entry on a 5th gen console like Dreamcast, N64, or PS1. Sims 1 is not such a case, so not retro. Sorry champ.

That is no bleedover. They're discussing things that are breaking the rules. If I am talking about C&C, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, or any other franchise, it is always the older titles with very rare spotlight on newer stuff. Why are they allowed to get away with it? SMT threads don't talk about newer titles or Persona 4.

It probably shouldn't be, but that's the rules, and unless the majority of the board desires a change or if someone can otherwise persuade our Japanese overlord to adjust the rules, the rules are the rules and should be followed for the sake of keeping the board as it is. Too much leeway and before you know it half the board will be Halo nostalgia or "you didn't have a proper childhood unless your XBOX360 RROD'd" threads.

>> No.2745371

The market for those games were for older people since it was on an older console.

The idea is to keep this board more mature. Eventually the ps2 and xbox community will be allowed in, but only once they have matured enough to not make the board shittier. So, maybe 5 more years and then their age will be 30?

>> No.2745406

>>2745371

>> No.2745434

>>2745371
The problem with this theory is that age doesn't always correlate with maturity. The worst shitposters on this board all claim to be 30-35, most often 31.

Even within the confines of /vr/, there are a lot of really shit threads that don't break any rules. Plenty of low effort threads that use a stock picture and less than five words that will end up getting hundreds of go-nowhere responses and baseless arguments. Console war threads are just one example. That Nintendo PlayStation thing keeps getting reposted with no noteworthy developments and every thread is packed with the worst kinds of people.

It doesn't matter how you limit the content with restrictive rules, there will always be those who want to ruin it for everyone. Letting in newer consoles will probably attract more people, but amongst them will be even more shitposters. If you give in and allow 6th gen, these people will be complaining about no 7th gen instead.

The /vr/ line has been drawn at the millennium and you can't move it, change it or get rid of it.

>> No.2745443

This is exactly why it's idiotic to define the board by a date. There is no black and white cut-off for what is old vs new.

>The worst shitposters on this board all claim to be 30-35, most often 31

I'm of the impression that the "I'm 30" post is meant as a shutdown response/argument and has little to do with the person's actual age (as in, they are probably much younger). Like, if you see some argument where someone is accused of being underage, be it due to preferences, posting style, whether or not they grew up with something, etc, I get the feeling that the stock response is the person claiming to be 30.

And here I just wanted to see a thread about the sims.

It's pretty retarded to desperately cling to the pre-2000 date when the game actively lists windows 95 and 98 as system requirements. OS is quite obviously the platform, running on a newer one does not change that.

a Dreamcast is a single hardware configuration, even if games are released n years later after the platform launch, it is still limited to the same hardware and API

PCs are constantly evolving, there is no 'generation' or a single date that you can define it with. you can upgrade the hardware or software, both or either, fully or partially.

the point: a game released in 2004 for the Dreamcast will be limited to what technology a Dreamcast had on launch; a game released in 2004 for the PC will have 2004 technology support, with future technology available to technologically enhance the game even more
