Does anyone know if a US NES Toploader can play Famicom games with no modification? If not, how would I go about playing Famicom games on one?

There's still a difference in the number of pins between NES and Famicom, even if the 2nd model NES isn't a toaster. So you still need an adaptor of some sort.

NES games use 72 pins. Famicom games use 60 pins, IIRC. So no, Famicom games won't work on a U.S. top-loading NES or front-loading NES without an adapter of some sort. You could hunt for one of those Gyromite carts with an adapter inside, although they'll be difficult to find. Try to get a good third-party adapter if you want to play Famicom games, just be aware that games with chips that allow extra sound channels won't work on a stock NES.

That's your problem, they'll be trying to hustle you, people will charge like 200 dollars for a 32X on there, which they aren't even close to worth, hell, that's way more than what they went for when it was new.

I'm normally on the "don't destroy games" bus, but Gyromite is only functional with a ROB, and I guarantee you there are far more Gyromite carts than functioning ROBs out there. I found a Gyromite cart with an adaptor inside, and I will guiltlessly cut that thing up good as soon as I pick up some famicom games.

You're missing the point entirely. If a few dollars is too expensive for you, then you shouldn't be playing physical games. Do you guys all just have shitty jobs or what? I hate faggots like you who would rather destroy a game than spend a few bucks on a converter or just buy a fucking Famicom.

>> No.2734924

Retard logic. If everybody goes around thinking that, then soon enough there WON'T be any Gyromite games left. Why don't you just get a decent fucking job, you fucking failure?

>>2734952
Most gyromites are 5-screws using the old-style NES 'security' screws which were actually really easy to unscrew with a flathead. Instead of ripping the cart apart or something, please instead consider using the very easy method of opening up 5-screw NES games, lest another irreplaceable cartridge be needlessly eviscerated.

He is right that we shouldn't treat gyromite carts as infinite, even if it's not all that playable whether you have a ROB or not. That's why I suggest the lesser of evils, you get your converter and no carts have to be destroyed in the process.

If you were to destroy every gyromite cart ever nothing of value would be lost.

>> No.2735093

I think the price disparity arises from those kind of people who just google stuff and then arrogantly spout the shit they think they know but haven't actually done for themselves and so often are missing a crucial part, and then they repeat it. I love correcting those kind of people.
An adapter for playing 72 pin NES games on a 60 pin Famicom is a simple PCB with little to no components on it and can be bought for just a few dollars

An adapter for playing 60 pin Famicom games on a 72 pin NES requires the NES security chip to be on the adapter since no Famicom games have it. It's part of what pushed up the price of NES games ever since the beginning and it still pushes up the price of these adapters. You WILL pay $10-$15 for one unless you turn over massive amounts of carts and get lucky enough to find one of the precious few still running around in the "wild" i.e. big lots of cheap games that haven't been combed by some other nerd yet.

You claimed you need an adapter with a lockout chip, which isn't true since all you need to do is disable the lockout on your toaster, which you should do anyways. You claimed you couldn't get an adapter for less than $10, he proved you wrong.

Actually I didn't dumbass I just said that thing isn't going to work well unless you have a toploader and looks like shit. You do need one with a lockout since most people are too pussy to open their console and snap a leg off a microchip. Something I have done but can understand why your regular normie would be reluctant. Also he never linked it so we don't even know how old that screenshot is, the thing he linked is what those stupid faggots who make famicom inside of NES cart games use.

Oh and also I am just going to play your game and assume that you are all the same person too just same fagging to protect yourself.
