2732496 No.2732496 [Reply] [Original]

what's the most recent game you beat? What did you think of it?

Pic related for me, just finished after starting it on Friday. I'd dabbled in it before but never gone very far. I found it pretty easy until the last level. The difficulty spike in the end was hard to manage but I finally got it. Also watched the movie it was based on, it was okay, it really feels like it was trying too hard to force Burton's typical darkness with various 'wacky/campy' tributes to the 60's TV show. I can't say I didn't enjoy Jack's performance though, and Kim Basinger was hot as hell too. Game was better than the movie overall I thought.

How about you?

Download on PC Engine

It's well known for the Engrish, but it's actually a really good shooter. Tons of parallax and color.

Only 6 levels, but some of them are divided up into multiple areas

Nice cutscenes for a HuCard also.

Chaser missles are overpowered though

har har, good one

I thought Joker was easier than Firebug tbh, I will provide tips.

To beat the Joker, do this:

Start the fight by running up to the left wall. He will usually shoot at least twice with his gun, and you basically have to jump as soon as the fight starts or you'll get hit by the first shot. Watch him carefully and you'll begin to see that there's a certain timing/position when he'll fire the gun. You need to jump when he does this position, or else you will be too late to dodge the fire. In other words, if he's already shot the bullet, you're too late. Jump before he fires. You will not beat him unless you can consistently dodge the gun shots here.

After two/three shots, he will stop and cast lightning. You dodge this easily by staying where you are. After a few gunshots and a lightning cast, he'll run toward you. Stand your ground, and get ready to beat him. Position yourself so that your closest side to him is just below the tip of his gun barrel and duck. If you are positioned correctly then his shots will go right over you. This is when you spam the crap out of him with batarangs. Don't do it mindlessly though, as he will continue to back away from you slightly with every step. That's why, after every shot he fires, you must creep forward as he backpedals. Make sure that so long as you're facing him, your face is just about below the tip of the gun, even as he backs up. He will occasionally stop to cast lightning again. From your crouching gun-dodge position, walk one-half batman's length away from him, and you should easily dodge the lightning. As soon as the first bolt is gone from the screen, start moving back into gun-dodge position. It will take some practice, but with enough careful matching of Joker's movements and enough batarang spam, you will get him once and for all, and finally avenge your parent's murders.

OP again, I own 6 classic mega man games and have never beaten any of them. I always gave up at the wily machines.

>>2734179
I'd seen parts of it once when I was a little kid, but didn't know much at all about it. Before this weekend the only batman movies I'd seen were the Nolan trilogy and Batman & Robin. If I ever get Batman Returns then I'll watch that movie too, hopefully it will be better than the first movie.

>>2734503
Actually, I didn't have much trouble with the bosses. They all had pretty easily found patterns and died with enough perseverance (I actually have no idea how to fight the one moonslash boss without taking damage, I just batarang spammed him to death). The biggest bullshit was the last level's difficulty spike as a whole, the bosses were just the icing on the cake.

Or is it that the bosses are basically 'find their pattern and spam them to death' with little flexibility or interesting mechanics?

Just finished this game as well as Shatterhand myself and I'm pretty sure I need more punching platformers in my life. Joker was a bit ridiculous. I just ended up bataranging him to death after several tries. Have to agree that the bosses are pretty uninteresting in Batman for the most part, aside from the Joker. On the other hand, I thought the bosses in Shatterhand were pretty good, but the last guy in that one was a joke.

Also, controls seem a bit dodgy at times in Batman, with missed inputs and such. Wondering if that's an emulation thing or just the old Sunsoft touch.

>>2735776
What do you mean by losing continues? When I played it seemed to have unlimited continues. If you meant getting a game over, then yes. Even after game over it would still remain the same. That carried me through for sure, knowing I wouldn't have to deal with him again.

>> No.2736127

>>2734847
Did this one have a game too?

I always thought movies were more or less a waste of time, I could raise a character's level a few times or get practice on several hard stages in the same amount of time that I could glaze my eyes on a film. Batman was popular in my teenage years, the period when I was most into films, so I ended up seeing them before I once again lost interest in movies. I'm not above watching them, I just think there are better ways to spend my time.

>>2735207
I'm not convinced that you can beat joker any other way. I also think that the gun and triple shot are just in there to trick less observant players into thinking that they're more powerful/useful so that they can't beat certain parts and are encouraged to drain money on game hotlines. Didn't have trouble with controls, I thought they were just fine.

>>2735239
I've heard that this one was pretty good. I assume as such being capcom.

>>2735987
It's not so much that I need more grittiness, it's just those moments where things seemed really queer. Like how batman would frequently throw his cape out in dramatic (but never intimidating) fashion, or how he'd just take gunshots without trying to dodge (I mean really, what if they aim for the head?), or how sometimes they'd have pointless delays in things happening (why was removing batman's mask so slow and deliberate, for example).

I think I'm just spoiled by newer interpretations where he's more agility-based, and things are taken more seriously in general. I still enjoyed it, just had nagging issues like what I described.

>>2732508
not OP but I only saw it for the first time like 2 years ago despite being a lifelong Batman fan. I would see bits and pieces on TV from time to time but never the full thing because what I did see bored me. Even after watching it all I didn't think it was that great. TAS was way better.

I agree that passive media such as movies can seem like a waste, and also that Burton's Batman is pretty bad. I never understood the appeal of the film, and TAS is infinitely better.

Breath of Fire. I'm a huge fan of iii onwards, but hadn't really played the first two. It's p much everything wrong with JRPGs rolled up into one game, but I'll give it a pass for being Cap's first real attempt at the genre other than Sweet Home. Playing ii next with the re translation. Hopefully it's better.

This masterpiece. I never would have imagine enjoying a collectathon save for say Mario 64 which I have fond memories of. I considered the genre a dated early 3D concept kept alive by the nostalgia of 20 year olds.

But god damn, the gameplay, tight control, impressive graphics, brilliant concepts, and overall RARE polish was absolutely divine. I'm now actively searching for Tooie, which to my knowledge is considered a proper sequel. This game only heightens my expectations for CBFD which I recently picked up.

Little Samson.
It was great, although I beat it on easy and that prevents you from getting the true ending. So I tried normal mode on an emulator just to see how hard it would be. Normal mode is not too hard, but it has a lot of bullshit one hit deaths and the extra final level is all padding (repetitive level design and a boss rush). Final boss was cool, not worth the time though. I'm glad I did normal on an emulator.

>> No.2744746

I can't say that I dared to try it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was true that punches worked well. I relied on batarangs since they can hit multiple times.

>>2744575
I've heard it's pretty good but I'm not ready to pay crazy prices just to play it, not yet at least.

I say 'not yet' because I have too many games, as I get more into the mood of playing games that I own rather than play games while looking for more to buy, I find that I'm adopting more of a 'Japanese' collecting style, which I've heard is more "buy a game, play it, and then sell it unless you really like it" which they say is necessary due to the small living spaces over there. Now I could easily afford the space for a huge collection, but I find more and more that it doesn't necessarily bring me joy to own all these games and just look at them, it brings me more joy to play them. More significant, this lets me really get a grip for what games I actually like and dislike (for example, I find that Gradius and Contra just aren't for me), so in a way I'm becoming a better gamer too. My opinions aren't just shaped by what I hear online, but by my own experiences.

Of course I could also just get a flash cart, ha ha.
