This halloween monster madness sucks, he just doesn't put any effort into his videos anymore. You see that he wants to take the easy way out and just upload unscripted shit all day long because it's the fastest way to get them clicks without having to do anything for it.

I'm not defending him, he got much less funny, his reviews (both movie and games alike) lost the touch and aren't as good as his pre 2010 videos. I agree with you. James used to produce good content. But somewhere he got way too self indulgent. It all started in 2010 or so. He started working on his stupid movie and went downhill from there: His reviews became half assed, with long time intervals between each other (up to 6 months, and that is ridiculous), monster madness has got boring and this year it's being the worse of all and now he just does these stupid half assed let's play with mike during mondays.

AVGN was great from the beginning to about the Mario 3 review.

One of my clear favourites was the Atari 5200 review. It was my first one too, being a Gametrailers faggot bqck then, so that might be why.

Now, though, even if he does end up being good again, he has already lost his voice, his hair, and his soul, so it doesn't really matter.

I used to watch the Monster Madness for some short'n'sweet reviews of horror movies. But back then they were scripted and edited. Very easy to digest.

But recently he has just gotten fucking lazy. Most things he does are now unscripted crap with his pals. It's too long, too uninteresting, too boring and just plain bad craftsmanship.

His Mario 3 video is god-tier. It showed what he could do. His new videos are just slapped together. I remember when he showed the final cut pro file for Mario 3 (he's a mac fag), and there are so many video/audio tracks because of the effects at the end.

Lets be honest here, hte film was doomed to failure from the beginning.

The AVGN character isn't something that can hold up a feature length movie, its much more conducive to short bursts of 8 - 15 minutes.

Basing an entire film around him, giving him backstory, giving him sidekicks, throwing in every single youtuber you could imagine as a cameo/extra, constantly having "its for the fans" "do it for the fans" "the FANS" blasted in your ear, and having a plot so paper thin doomed it from the outset.

If he used the money to actually make a B-tier monster or horror movie it would've been much better.

The saddest part is guys like Doug Walker and Pat the NES punk would vehemently praise the movie mostly because it was made by James and they had cameos in it.

I could forgive it for forced sidekicks, interracial romances, bad special effects, bad acting and a shitty plot, if it was even remotely funny.

Only around every 1 in 3 of this years Monster Madness are unscripted, there are still some good reviews so far

That's the sad thing, some people put in a lot of effort to make quality, refined content and get decent response, while other people who put in no effort with minimal skill manage to get similar or even greater response and can put out work left and right due to said low effort/time commitment. I have no doubt that the success of GameGrumps led directly to James & Mike Mondays, for better or worse (I'm not saying J&M is shit, nor am I saying it is excellent, just making an observation).

After awhile, people who used to put in high effort just think "fuck it, why put in all this effort when people gobble up things of inferior quality." It's volume over quality on YouTube, always. It's not like that aspect even necessarily sucks. People would rather have a consistent update schedule than wait for weeks for another video that they have no idea when it will be done.

James' problem is that while a lot of his old stuff was scripted and involved a lot of work, it was about him as a film maker and not a game enthusiast. Games were just his hook.

The issue is quality shows have this huge cast behind them, and when it's one or two guys doing all the work, it's basically going to be them looking over worked, struggling to produce content because you don't have specialists handling one aspect of production really really well.
