WoW... thank god I finally escaped my raiding guild back in 2008. I think I had some 300 days of gameplay total. Granted most of that was just being logged in to chat while working.

How? Dreamcast is a portable NAOMI, which is what the arcade version runs on. GC and PS2 versions suffer from slowdown and worse controls.

This has to be a troll thread. The GC version has slowdown in areas that the DC doesn't. Plus, with the DC, you can use that sweet VGA.

There's a point where quake becomes like a second home.

Blizzard are specialists in making those "suck in a large part of your lifetime" games. For me it's Warcraft 2 battle net edition, but played a lot of diablo 1 and starcrfat too.

>> No.2728594

I've put an absolute ton of time into this game (still working towards that 20k CRAZY ranking, my highest so far is 14k and I need to study a better route than my usual).
but it's probably not my most played /vr/ game

my most played /vr/ game is probably one of the KOFs, 98 or '02

>>2727129
I don't even like the Offspring (actually, I think most of their songs are kind of shit), but All I Want is a thing of beauty.

but if the soundtrack really bothers you, it's not too hard to replace the ADX files and burn a disc with your own soundtrack
there's other issues with that though (your disc isn't as nicely optimized anymore, DC's 6x CD vs 12x GD read speed and Crazy Taxi streams level data constantly, etc)

I think it's got to be Super Mario World.
This game is my own miniature garden, I can always come back to it and have fun playing for hours, even if I already know the whole game by heart.

I have completed 100% files several times.

Other than that, I can imagine some fighting games I'veplayed for hundreds of hours as well, mainly playing VS with friends for hours and hours, stuff like SF II, Alpha 2, Fatal Fury Special, but I think nothing tops SMW. I still do a yearly playthrough, sometimes several times. It has something that makes me want to keep playing, a mixture of thick nostalgia and really good gameplay and design. Even if I know the game by heart, I can always take different routes through levels and on the map, so it's not always exactly the same thing.
For some reason I never got into SMW hacks. I figure I'd rather play other games instead of romhacks, but I'm sure I'd enjoy these, too.

Either >>2728474 or pic related. I would love to play these games for the first time again, what an experience.

Super Hang-On is an honorable mention, but I stopped playing when I beat all of the courses. Lumines or SSB:PM are probably my most played modern games.

Overall, retro only, some candidates are

SMB1
Nethack
F-Zero X
Mortal Kombat 1&2

In the last year I dunno how much time I've sunk into World of Xeen but I don't feel like I'm anywhere near the end, for time spent on a single play through this may take the cake.
