Do reading teen posts about "old videogames" give you feels too or am I just inmature and emotionally unestable?

You seem like the only one displaying an autistic lack of empathy.

Call him a crybaby bitch if you want, but nostalgia and a fear of aging are pretty normal feelings for all people.

>> No.2721198

>>2721196
No. It's not normal. I enjoy growing older. I have a good life. I don't sit and worry about stuff I have absolutely no control over. What's the point in worrying about growing old or the past? Pretty sad tbh.

Nostalgic feels are great. I feel happy to have the and memories of the past. Do I sit around and worry about it and feel sad I'm not a kid anymore? No. Not at all.

It annoys me a bit, but as other anon said it's not something you have control over, and honestly I don't care if people outlive me. I don't like how technology is evolving and I'm not sure if I will like the future, I'm already not liking the present 2015, I'm severely disappointed, this is not the 2015 I imagined as a kid. It's too boring and social networks suck dicks, which is why I'm on 4chan I guess.

As for videogames, it's good that kids obsess over old games I think, maks me feel my childhood was way better than theirs (which I'm sure it is) and also my old consoles and games are worth more money than they did originally.

Maybe it's just me but all the Robocops and Terminator stuff is a bit different from most of the gore we get today, I mean, deep down all those things even Stallone or Arnie movies had some kind of finnicky moral at the end of it or some sort of humour and self awareness of their cheesy and ridiculous nature that made the shows not so gritty and serious, Mortal Kombat was like all those gory OVA of the 90's though, gore for the sake of it, though not even as graphically impressive and satisifying as OVAs.

Now it seems to me that stuff like Gears of War or Cawadoody don't have much of that, there's some kind of sterile, puerile fascination with violence for the sake of violence, which is very similar to what I mentioned before mind you, but even then, I still think that back then there was something more to it, it might have been because of the limitations in technology or something but the modern gore and violence don't seem quite the same as the old ones, or maybe I'm just older and have nostalgia googles, I don't really know.

I mean, Big Trouble in Little China sure did have gore and stuff but it was used differently, it was like DMC gore, either dramatic or comedic.

We were filled on the subject, and also getting porn wasn't hard either. My friend's older brothers had tons of porn and even hentai/porn comic books. And the same old man who owned the old book store we used to buy comics from, didn't mind if we took a porn magazine or two.

Why isn't Star Wars art? Why the fuck isn't Citizen kane entertaining?

Art can be etertaining, and entertainment can be art. However art doesn't have to be entertaining and entertainment certainly doesn't have to be art so I think that's why you're confused.

>>2721330
>Good art uses emotions to change your mind.
According to whom? Did you just pull that out of your ass?

Firstly, the fact that you used "good" here shows me you don't know what you're talking about. Whether something is art or not has no bearing whatsover on its quality. You can have worthless art and excellent art. So when we're talking about whether video games are art or not, whether they're good art is completely irrelevent.

Second, on the "change your mind" part, where the fuck are you getting the from? Did you mean to say "make you think" instead? That'd make much more sense. The 9th Symphony never changed my mind about anything, however I wouldn't hesitate to call it good art.

I've yet to hear a good argument for why games can't be art. The thing that separates the from film is that they're interactive, so you need to explain why interactivity inherently excludes a medium from becoming art.

My childhood ended in the 80's, so lots of things didn't exist. But there were other things, like arcades, and lots of pinball machines. Some of those things are probably gone forever now too. I remember big halls full of old electro-mechanical machines (from the 50's and 60's probably), and not just pinball but weird stuff like baseball games with figurines that move, etc. This was all part of a big fairground, and really just a minor attraction compared to the huge number of rides and roller coasters, etc. But those electro-mechanical things were already old when I was a kid, and I'm guessing many of them have broken over the years, etc. Must be over 30 years since I set foot in that place, no idea what it's like today.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennywood

Of course, more "modern" (70's and 80's) pinball and arcade machines were all over the place, even throughout the 90's. Not so much anymore though.

Times change, enjoy your own experiences.

I think this kind of statement is so triggering to a lot of adults because:

1. the poster is a child
2. implies the reader is also a child
3. implies that GoW is a good enough game to make or break one's childhood

Halo is a 15 year old game. It's too old to be"babby's first FPS." A lot of gamers weren't even in their double digits age-wise when the game was released. It's just a couple of years outside of the /vr/ date range. I'm sorry if it makes you feel old, but Halo is not a new game anymore, and a lot of people do consider it a classic.

Nope. Call me old-fashioned, but I think kids who play games suited for children have a better time.

I consider myself lucky since consoles pretty much grew up with me. NES in the early childhood, SNES in my early teenager years and finally the PSX when I had my "dark and edgy" phase and after that I pretty much switched over to PC gaming (got my first PC in 1998, best year of PC gaming, imo).

True, but in a lot of ways their first experiences could have been good in their own ways.

The only thing I pity children growing up with today's games is their mainstream aspect and the existence of internet.

Essentially the social and qualitative aspect of enjoying games is pretty fucked, and I can see that in the less engaged stares kids have as they mindlessly play free mobile games on their parents' cell phones. Today it's so easy to get sucked away by what's popular and easy to get into that they'll never have an adventure choosing games that companies and third parties HAD to labor on to grab your attention, rather than companies with a refined formula, media campaign and global status to keep up.

So yeah the internet probably destroyed what was once a really in-depth and unique experience, but I'd like to think there are at least some parents out there with some taste and patience who can set their children up with the good stuff in the right ways with all the years of experience they have from video games.
