Xenogears thread

>> No.2711417

i lost my save file at the part where Elle and Fei get picked up off the ship and there's no way I'm playing all the way back there again

way too many fucking cutscenes, combat is super basic, and while the game looks pretty good shit like D Block is a crime against good game design. It also doesn't help that half the scenes are vague shit that won't make sense until 50 hours from now.

I can see why its liked, but I guess it ain't for me.

why not just download the save files?

I did it for FF7

Was there an end game to Takahashis idea or was he really trying to work as you go?

you can kind of understand why he left the company after this game

I'm almost done with the game but can't get myself to finish it. Got burnt out. Also why are there party hats in the catalog today?? I didn't think there was anything special about today.

XENO:
Gears
Saga
Blade

Rank 'em.

>> No.2713457

Blade is menial quest simulator. The world is beautiful but the content comes at the cost of players giving a shit about what they're doing. I didn't really care about anybody outside of Colony 9. All the sidequests fall flat and end up being boring except ones that pit you against bosses. Being motivated to explore and hunt enemies is much different that being asked (on a time limit) to kill those enemies repeatedly, all at once, and then to walk back to the quest offerer. 60 hours of playing and I just reached Melia's home city, and I'm BORED. The plot and characters are the best in Gears though, so it's still like an 8.5. Plot bosses are hype and I care about the main cast. If it wasn't trying to simulate an MMO I'd be happier.

Saga is better watched than played. Very cool and unique theme and setting. Ziggy and Cosmos are just too cool, but the fighting itself often fails to be interesting. The bizarre second game threw me off, design changes and VA changes and an irrelevant plot to the ending of the series... not cool

Haven't played Gears itself yet. Looks breddy gud

The "main" character of Xenosaga, that Shion bitch is one of the worst lead characters in a video game I have ever seen. Awful acting, awful characterisation, just awful. Aside from that, it was pretty fun, though I never played the third game.

>> No.2714752

>>2714707
That's too bad, because Xenosaga III is the best one. It finally dumps the wacky battle systems the first two games had and went to something more conventional, much to the benefit of the series.

>> No.2714798

>>2712057
Episodes 1-4 and 6 were a thing (Xenogears was episode 5). Xenosaga was an attempt to do it over again but the three games only covered (the reimagined version of) episode 1.

>> No.2714802

And Xenosaga itself was originally meant to be six games.

>> No.2714847

Xenosaga ran in to the same basic fuck ups that Xenogears did, namely that they ran out of budget and had to rush everything to the finish.

The whole episode I-VI thing was basically an easy rip off of what Lucas did with Star Wars. The longer Xenosaga went on, the more apparent it became that they had less of an overarching vision and more of a knack for making shit look like it meant something. Its the same thing that happened with Evangelion where Christian imagery was ripped off because it looked cool but didn't really mean anything.

Although I agree with you, the way the game utilized elements from these random religious sources was in and of itself very close to the idea of gnosticism.

Well, Blade was the only one that actually realized itself fully. Because Xenogears met it's fate and Xenosaga was supposed to be a sequel but couldn't due to licensing.

It's a sad truth, but it's there. At least one finally got out as intended though.

Lake Turkana was always going to be the origin point. They originally had it in Baikal since it's the worlds oldest and deepest lake, but they wanted to move it to Africa.
