Emulation General:

Is it better to emulate games on Linux or Windows? Does it even matter?

I said Linux because maybe it's easier to troubleshoot stuff...

>> No.2697508

>>2697495
There are a bunch of emulators that are Windows only that don't have a better cross platform alternative. Can't really say the same for Linux.

>> No.2697516

>>2697508
So emulating stuff on Raspberry Pi or ODROID is not optimal since it's Linux(Debian recommended)?

I want to have a small computer like those 2 that can emulate all the classics just like it would be on the original console + browse the web like usual(if it can run League of Legends then great).

>> No.2697543

>>2697516
The Pi is ARM based, a different architecture altogether than one capable of running desktop Windows. The Pi is limited for a lot of reasons, but the fact it runs Linux isn't really one of them. It's a toy that gathered a lot of attention almost solely because of the price. Almost any post-2005 laptop will do a better job.

That said, it can run a web browser and it can run most of the basic emulators for older systems, so you could do worse I suppose.

My dad needs a computer for browsing the internet for newspapers, paying bills, downloading shit and streaming sports from bed.He still uses our first computer from 1998 when it was the shit even owning a computer in our country.

I'd like to have it emulate games when I'm there so I'm not glued to my phone the whole time.

>> No.2697587

Ordered my RPi 2 the other day, since I'm primarily making use of it's extra power compared to my RPi B for a project being entered into a competition, as well as emulation. Got a couple questions:

1. How are the N64 emulators at the moment? Last I checked, Mupen64Plus had a bunch of texture fuckups in Ocarina of Time, and gameplay for Goldeneye was very clunky. Are these problems remediable?

2. Is there a built in method for adding background music per system while browsing the library in EmulationStation/RetroPie? Because I've seen that it's included with RecalBox.

Thanks, anons.

Wii emulation is pretty tempting.

A Wii is around 30$ these days and it's cheaper than a Raspberry Pi, except its easier to use Gamecube controllers.

I'm just not sure about the lag, but I'm just going to be playing SNES and NES on it

Games like Pocky & Rocky already lag on SNES9x

>> No.2697619

>>2697562
Fuck no. You'll need a reasonably fast PC to emulate PS2. Playstation1 and N64 are the best you can hope to emulate on a RaspberryPi2 / Odroid C1 at playable speeds. There is Reicast for Dreamcast emulation, but it still seems too slow on the C1 and definitely on RasPi2.

>> No.2697632

SNES and PS1 maybe, PS2 and Dreamcast, hell no. Dreamcast requires a fairly decent PC, while PS2 can require an i7-powered monster in some situations.

They hate the fact that non collector fags are playing more and rarer games then they have in their hundreds if not thousands of dollars collection all for less than $100. When you really think about it... without retro emulation you'd have far fewer people to discuss retro games with. I had this happening to me often when I was using a DS3.

Basically, if I let the controller idle for enough time some weird shit would happen and the emulation would put my keyboard in charge of everything and I couldn't set it back to the controller. Sometimes it did went back to the controller but the hotkeys would get fucked.

I solved this deleting every controller config that comes preloaded with retropie, and then mapping my controller again in the emulation station UI. That did the trick.

I don't remember where exacly those files were but I think a quick google search will get you that.
