Just got my sega nomad in the mail today. Picked her up for $80 plus $7 shipping. Anybody remember owning one of these? How do you guys feel about them? I'm thinking about doing the lcd screen swap so I dont have to deal with ghosting and screen failure later on. General Nomad/sega discussion

Should have saved up a bit more and got this superior piece of rare genesis kit instead.

I've already got this abomination, I mean sure I'd pick a cdx up if it didnt cost me what a current gen console would cost me.

I wouldn't pay more than $150 for one and if you're lucky you can score one on ebay for around $100 you just need to be patient and wait for a listing with bad pictures and low feedback. Believe it or not I scored mine on ebay about 5 years ago for $50.

It's definitely the second best genesis model below the model 1. Good composite output, better audio than the model 2 and the convenience of one power supply for playing sega cd games. Plus the compact design is cool as fuck. It's definitely worth every penny of it's current value. You'd be better off getting one now rather than later, though because that price isn't going anywhere but up.

Looks like they run about $250 to $300 depending on what comes with it on ebay

Not that it really has anything to do woth cdx but you can buy a 3in1 power aupply for a 32x/cd/genesis from the site retrogamecave.com

>>2702396

If you go to sold listings there's one that sold for $25 (wtf), one that sold for $100, one for $147.60 and a few more for around $150. These were all listed as working. Like I said don't pay more than 150.

Daaamn wish I had the extra chedder to throw around. I'd like to pick one up sooner or later. Though it'd probably sit on my shelf and collect dust to be honest

If you're not going to use it then don't buy it. It's a great console to play genesis/sega cd games on. It fits pretty much anywhere near any tv stand and is nice and portable to take with you on trips or to a friend's. It's A/V output is honestly comparable to the model 1's. I have mine hooked up to my CRT and play it all the time.

I like my X'Eye better. It's easier to work on and it shares several parts (e.g. the laser) with Saturn.

>>2702373
I have two Nomads. Like the Game Gear they're battery hogs (if you even got a battery pack) but unlike the Game Gear, they have a easily accessibly composite signal line (since they have a multi-out) and are terrific candidates for screen replacement. A modern screen from a back-up camera for the car not only looks a lot better but it also has markedly less power consumption.

I just run my gen though compasite, I've stereo modded it so the sounds come out as pretty much cd quality. I'd like one just to say i have one. I own the 32x/cd/gen pictured above, saturn, 2 dreamcasts (1 original 1 sports edition) I was looking into getting amaster system But I honeslty Dont know if it'd be worth it

>>2702430

I looked into the lcd mod a little bit but from what I can tell its very had to find a screen thats compatible with the nomad. Though havi 2nd consume lessbpower would be awesome. Like I said I jist got it today and alreayd burned though a whole set of batterys

Yea tell me about it. Shipping for this was only $6 so I'm not too butt hurt lol. Saw they had a few rare single genesis games on here but they wanted $20 for shipping? I'm a sucker but I like to think I'm not that big of a sucker.

I figure you can't fit a Powerbase Converter on a Nomad, but could another passthrough device be uses to play Master System games?

Where do you find replacement screens? Just rip one out of something else? I've been wanting to do this with my Game Gear.

Also, is there tutorials for the installment? I have basic soldering skills, but without instructions on wire placements and such, I wouldnt know what I'm doing. I couldn't find a full tutorial on YouTube.

>> No.2703657

>>2703420
It's not as straight forward for game gear. You will have to buy and install a secondary pcb which will create a composite signal.
The Nomad has av out, so adding an LCD is easy (once you find one that works properly).

Whoa, didn't know the Nomad also used a planet-themed codename. Nice.

So in total there are supposed to be six, right?

Sega Neptune: Standalone 32X
Sega Mars: 32X
Sega Venus :Nomad
Sega Pluto: Prototype Saturn

Gongrats! I've had mine for many years and love it. Though honestly these days it's more of a novelty, if I want to play portable Genesis I'll just use a PSP which is way more practical. Still, the Nomad screen has a cool look to it and I usually have something plugged into mine.

-NTSC/JAP or NTSC/PAL region mod
-Widen the cartridge slot to fit JAP Mega Drive games
-Screen mod
-Speaker mod

Last, modding your battery pack with a rechargeable li-po battery. You get a good 4 and a half hours of battery life.

What is it with modders and blue LEDs? I'll never get it...
Especially with a portable. Do you want to be shone in the face with a super-bright blue LED?

blue LEDs are like the worst indicator LEDs...

I can't understand wanting to do that to a Nomad. May as well just play a PSP at that point.
