At least the snes version of 6 we got was pretty good. Cumbersome to move around and get shit in comparison to the pc version but a really good port, none the less.

Especially considering the ultima 7 "Version" we got for the snes.

Best console version is probably 4 for the SMS because it's one of the best versions for that game.
Worst console versions is either 4 for the NES due to being extremely cut down or 5 for the NES due to being too ambitious for the hardware.
7 for the SNES is practically a different game altogether. I think the same applies to Savage Empire but I don't have much experience with that.
The others (3 for NES, 6 for SNES, UW1 for PS1) are alright.

My personal favority game is Underworld 2.
Worst game is probably 2 or 8 but Serpent Isle really pissed me off because I had higher expectations than for those two.
I'm not sure if you can talk of spinoffs since the numbered series already has a lot of variety. Underworld 1 is great but it's less a spinoff and more a game that was shoehorned into the franchise.

The game has like a dozen computer ports (Apple II, Amiga, Atari ST, Atari 8bit, C64, FM-7, FM Towns, IBM-DOS, MSX, PC-88, PC-98, X1) and the SMS one is effectively better than them. The only real competition is the modern xu4.

3 gets unfairly overlooked, I think. You may not be the avatar yet, but it's gotten past the immaturity of the first two games.

It is pretty good. 80s anime art just has that look and feel that I can't describe...and it didn't go full moeshit yet.

I like Ultima 7 and I am enjoying Shroud of the Avatar currently.
