GOG now has System Shock 1 legally! Anyone know if it's worth getting if I already have Portable?

Actually no. SSP is more configurable and the copyright holders kicked out that version for their own. It's kind of stupid, but apparently the letter told them that they could make SSP a patch for the legal version.

The big deal here is that someone now owns all of the SS rights. This means SS3 may actually happen now though unfortunately not by Looking Glass.

Anyway, I agree that the GOG version works better at high resolutions however. In the end it's apples to oranges. I don't understand the minimum resolution thing though, especially since it's confirmed to work on much lower.

Hey, so I bought the game from GOG and tried the Enhanced Edition first. The game runs like shit despite my CPU being higher mid range. Anyone know what's wrong? I say CPU and not GPU because I'm sure the rendering on a game as old as System Shock is done entirely on CPU side, but I could be wrong.

I tried abandonware SS1 at some point. It came from that hellish time where they hadn't quite figured out how to do 3d FPS/rpg things. Clicklook (and not being able to interpret some of the graphics) killed it for me.
