Aside from obvious contenders like Wasteland and Fallout, what are some retro games with a post-apocalyptic (nuclear) setting? RPGs preferred, but not really into roguelikes.

A few off the top of my head:

Burntime (pic related) - A strategy game, as best I can figure. You have to capture various territory across a wasteland.
8 Eye's - A Castlevania clone published by Taxan for NES. Although medieval in appearance, it actually occurs after a nuclear war.
Trojan - A platformer by Capcom for arcade, NES and others. You traverse through ruined cities and underground strongholds while fending off an army of warlords.

after the war - arcade type sidescreen scroller
fountain of dreams - spiritual successor to wasteland
bad blood - action adventure with some rpg elements
roadwar 2000 and it's sequel roadwar europe - turn based strategy about mad max style roadgangs

burntime is more of an rpg with some strategy elements. you go from town to town recruiting guys, trying to find food and water and eventually taking over places.

Pseudo Sandbox JRPG where you go around in a HNK world devastated by cyborg beasts, mutants and other crazy shit on your tanks.
Pretty radical.

At the risk of sounding like a faggot, FFVI is more or less post-apocalyptic and it begins when humanity is getting back on it's feet. Just replace nuclear with magic.

Always wanted to play this, but I got the CD-version and never managed to get it to work. It's by Legend entertainment which made god-tier interactive fiction/adventure games in the late 80s and early 90s.

IIRC Tex Murphy games are set in post-nuclear war world, but time has passed enough to mankind to reach the cyberpunk age of technology.
