And Virtual On of course.

Luv me some AfterBurner. Great fast gameplay and an awesome soundtrack with some songs even being better than what's on Outrun ;^).

>thY game is over
Recently played Joust for the first time the other week. Easily the most fun I ever had playing co-op on an arcade game.

Did you guys know that they figured out how the new tracks in the 3DS versions worked? This means they ripped them to vgm format.
http://vgmrips.net/packs/pack/after-burner-ii-sega-x
http://vgmrips.net/packs/pack/out-run-arcade
This is a testament to how good M2 ports are if we're able to rip them as if it was the normal arcade game.

>Puzzle Bobble
>Metal Slug 3
>Crossed Swords

>Ones I don't own
>Sunset Riders
>Gauntlet Legends
>House of the Dead 2
>Area 51
>Raiden

>> No.2686774

>>2686484
huh, those rips are missing the whole bass drums.
for comparision, this was ripped from Sega Ages 2500 After Burner, was in ADX format. Also, it included the 3 versions, AB, ABII revA(with melody) and ABII revB(without melody, the one found on most arcades).
http://picosong.com/JUL2

>> No.2686792

>>2686774
They don't seem to be missing, I think they're just being played at a lower frequency.

Also was there really an arcade version with the melody intact? I never once heard of that.

>> No.2686831

>>2686792
on sega ages, the melody versions were labelled as Rev A. The story I heard is that for unknown reasons, melody got axed just before release and the final revision (Rev B) is what got released in arcades.
But for some reason, Sega always used melody versions when outside of After Burner, take Samba de Amigo, and remixes always include melody, see After Burner III or Sega All Star Racing.

Also, Maximum Power also has a melody version that is missing from the rips. Subtle but it's there.

>> No.2686843

>>2686831
There's another weird part when it comes to the melodic versions.

A shitload of ports have them, even the ones SEGA didn't work on themselves. Like Jeroen Tel's version.

http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/interview/20131218_628106.html
So :
>melody version is composed
>somehow a non-melody version is sent to get burnt on rom
>Soundtrack CD get recorded and includes melody versions
which explains why many ports include the melody, as composers did many recompositions by ear.
>For 3DAB, devs decide to emulate sound instead of streaming
>ask original composer Hiroshi Kawaguchi if there's data for melody
>Kawaguchi eventually handles them an old ass 8" floppy (!) with data

what an adventure

That's what confuses me though, was the After Burner soundtrack even available outside Japan at the time?

>> No.2686916

importing was a thing, even back then.
Or sega provided the soundtrack when someone bought the rights to port.

I don't remember what it was called but it was a 3D Sci Fi racing game where you piloted flying vehicles and maneuvered around the tricky obstacle-filled environment in all 3 dimensions. Very well may not be /vr/, I played it during maybe 6th-gen era but the experience stuck with me as being the most fun I ever had at the arcade.

Nice list! Shouldn't be too hard to gather the ones you still need either. Nothing to rare. Only real pricey ones are Gauntlet and Sunset Riders. You can find HotD2, Area 51, and Raiden somewhat fairly cheap. Just gotta keep your eyes open!

I played TC2 so much when I was a teenager, I pretty much can't NOT play it when I see it. And since it was one of the most prolific and most advanced gun games around the time that arcades in America started to die, it's one of the most common (at least in my experience; I see it fucking everywhere).

Of course, half the time at least one of the guns' recoil is broke.

>They went back and composed new tracks for the original synth, burned them to an EPROM and played it back off real hardware

That is an almost disturbing amount of dedication on their part. SEGA still has people who fucking care, holy shit.
