The "punk" is meant to more or less emphasize a sci-fi element, distinguishing it from historical fiction. Basically, good "punk" stuff should more or less be "what if the world only technologically progressed this far" or present like it was science fiction from the actual time period it's based on. Mainstream interpretation is only concerned with shallow aesthetics.

Dieselpunk is really in its infancy, so it's pretty split between sci-fi analog electronics and sci-fi internal combustion tech. The big problem is that the modern world hasn't even left those technologies behind, so the base concept is kinda stupid for the time being.

Also, cyberpunk is basically sci-fi focused on cybernetics and what the world would look like if it were commonplace. This one is easier for plebs to get right.

I don't think I even trust that explanation. I'd guess the linux axing would of a worry of combination of other things ... running copied PS2 games, running enhanced PS2 games, hackers finding out too much about the hardware - likely information useful for bypassing PS3 game protection and stripping out spyware, and possibly messing with the blu-ray, but that's probably been cracked thoroughly ages ago.

Come on, modern default console controllers are accepted here as the flat out normal choice. Even moreso than modded wii's.

Now, if it just so happened that sony couldn't help but make PS3s that are defective, and sold them like old CPUs and GPUs that had defective cores/pipes, such that their usability would actually be seriously tilted towards an emulation linux box, that would be another thing.
